The old Weezer thread was dead....This is fantastic news for all of us who have been disappointed in Weezer ever since Pinkerton. Rivers seems to have had a complete change of heart regarding Songs From the Black Hole. I can only assume that now that he is getting married and moving on with his life, he would like a little closure to this, since all anyone ever asks him about is this album. This is a post from his blog yesterday in which he reveals lyrics to the songs that have not been released from SFtBH. Also, it seems that the only thing preventing the songs from being released is Geffen Records...

^^^ Most seem to be. Superfriend is full length for sure, and I guess it's possible that Good News and What Is This I Find? are full length.

yeah but this is different from pinkertonfor years, people have been talking about this album as the missing fucking linki have a feeling is just gonna be some pretty weird, pretty gay stuff that isn't gonna be worth it
5/1/2006 4:08:43 PM
That's possible, but I would say doubtful. We already have probably 50% if not more of the album. As mentioned above, most of the unreleased songs seem to be interludes that link it all together. All of the songs that we have are really good and in the same style as Pinkerton (in fact, the first four songs from Pinkerton are from SFtBH), so there's no reason to think that the rest of them would be significantly different.I do think there will be disappointment because of the fact that most of the unreleased songs are short, transitional pieces. Also, unless they were to ever revisit the project, it will never be heard as fully intended with the female vocalists and different parts played by different people.[Edited on May 1, 2006 at 4:15 PM. I think it's going to suffer from the same problem Smile had for so long. After Smile was canned and some of the songs popped up on different albums, people got excited by how good the album could've been and wanted more. When little snippets of unreleased, unfinished, out of context material were released, people were sort of baffled and slightly disappointed, even though some of the segments were brilliant (hello "Come to My Pod" vs. "Superfriend"). When Smile was finally finished, all of the odd segments were put in their proper place and made sense, both musically and thematically.Right now, SFTBH is reaching the second stage, and the possibly disappointing weirdness won't be resolved unless Rivers gets the urge to finish the damn thing, which seems highly unlikely.

This is not from Songs from the Black Hole, but it's just as good. "Getting Up and Leaving" is a lost Pinkerton track that was originally going to be a b-side to "Pink Triangle".
