I am planning a trip to DC & NY later this month & was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for good outdoor recreation/parks around the Pocono's or Central NY area. I am considering doing some canoeing down the Delaware as one possibility. Any did that or have any other suggestions of fun things to do?

well, first of all, the Pocono's are in PA... and from having lived there... you're a long ways away from NY or DC. and there's nothing to do there. Don't waste your time.

Thanks Sherlock, but if my geography is somewhat decent, I do believe that PA is between DC & NY. I'm just looking for some suggestions for outdoor recreation between DC & NY.

the place is still shitty and there's nothing to do.... i still reccomend doing something else. maybe spending sometime at the delaware water gap--awesome canoeing tours, including one that gets you on tops of 2 derailed trains still sitting in the river... which you can 'dive' down to see.... If you really want to visit the poconos, i would wait until Fall... there's nothing going on during the summer, considering the area thrives on its ski resorts.

Ok, thanks. The canoe trip through the delaware water gap is one thing I'm considering. It's not that I have a desire to go specifically to the pocono's, but I'm just trying to find some outdoor activities (hiking/canoeing/etc.) that would be possible on this trip & I don't know of much else between there.

Anything else you would recommend?

You could always take a Canoe Trip in the Delaware Bay right in the shipping channel.
