Hispanics nationwide are going on strike. Black Panthers are having an armed march on the Duke campus. I feel like us whites should protest something too.

the black nationalist racist label is usually a result (in my opinion) of fear and their association with Malcolm X.
However, Malcolm X moved past his early racism after his split with the nation of islam, but that is often ignored, or people didnt know about it.

its supposed to be like st joseph's worker day & labor day or some kind of alignment of working class attention days.

there are supposed to be alot of strikes/walkouts in the service industry tomorrow as well as greatly reduced spending tomorrow in general. how many people here will be affected by this directly as in with taxi's or food service etc, how many less directly in a possible effect on the stock market? how many will contribute to the cause by spending less tomorrow, how many will go along with things as usual, & will there be anyone to spend extra just to spite protestors?

i dont know about that, since he died the same year they were founded.

but considering these guys were formed under the breakaway parts of the factions within the nation of islam that killed malcolm x, and considering the black panther party took a lot of influence from malcolm x (especially after the split) i cant imagine the original members would be too happy.

i'm pretty sure that the Black Panthers originated as a watchdog organization to follow the po-lice around and make sure they weren't Rodney Kinging people...but they ended up getting crazy.

i disagree with some of his "negative contributions" being really negative.
i guess maybe negative in hindsight, but could have been otherwise(like the lumpen thing). others i dont think are bad at all when one considers them in a revolutionary context (like the not setting up an economic foundation).

Well it's Monday, so I guess we will see. Personally I don't think that anything that takes place (or doesn't take place as the case may be) today will effect the economy to the degree in which protesters think it will. I know several people that don't shop or work on Sunday for religious reasons and I'd have to guess that there are about as many of those people in the USA as there are protesters that will not shop/work today.

supplanter, i dont know the numbers for wake county specifically, other than the fact that our total population growth is crazy. but, i do know that the states hispanic population jumped 300 percent between 90 and 2000 and that most of that growth was post 94, and we have continued with a similar growth rate.

Why don't we just mirror the same policies in the US that Mexico has in place? In Mexico being an illegal immigrant is a felony. I have an issue with illegal immigrants protesting the policies in the US when the policies against illegal immigrants in their own country are much more brutal. Does anyone else see the duplicity here? Some parity in the treatment of "illegal immigrants" on both sides of the border would be appropriate, right?

This all being said... I actually support a program that would provide working papers and a path to citizenship for many of the "illegal immigrants" in the US today.... it makes more sense then shipping people home... most of these "illegal immigrants" are hard working people who simply want to earn an honest living.
