Anyone know if I can buy the GPS locator alone for Microsoft "Streets and Trips"? If so, where?

If you read through the information about Microsoft's GPS locator it mentions a bit about being compatible with some other brands, I think Garmin and some others. That may be more expensive than you are looking for, but it's an option.

How does the location feature on a cell phone work? I didn't think it got a signal from the GPS satellites, or did it?

The GPS receiver is a USB -GPS adapter for a computer. It simply receives the signal from all the GPS satellites. The program "Streets and Trips" contains all the software to convert the GPS reciever signal into information that Streets & Trips can display.

i have a laptop mounted in my car and i use that gps receiver with ms streets just fine. it's ran in the dash and comes out on top of the dash near the window and gets signal.
