Does anybody else get these? I don't know how I got signed up, but they won't quit sending them. I removed myself from all their mailing lists on their site and sent multiple emails to admins (even got a polite reply once). But for some reason I keep getting them. Has anyone else had issues with these jerks?
4/22/2006 11:22:09 PM
I do. I figured it was some random site that I signed up for whose privacy policy was an empty gesture.
4/22/2006 11:23:09 PM
if they added you on myspace...they're spamming you through there
4/22/2006 11:31:25 PM
I'd see them in gmail, hit "report spam", and the shit still comes through. There are about 4 or 5 other email things that this happens with. I've only ever visited the site when someone made fun of something on there, and had posted a link instead of a picture. There were some emails that went out in an email to CoTextiles students about jobs with these folks, with an Erica Sinkovic listed as a contact for this stuff. She's a COT alumna. MsEricaRenee looks like it might be her.^I don't even have a MySpace account[Edited on April 22, 2006 at 11:36 PM. Reason : ljk]

I started getting them because i signed up for an ezpoints card. Its like a vic card. They are those people that take pictures of you at local bars/clubs/restaurants.
4/22/2006 11:40:36 PM
^^neither do I.
4/22/2006 11:49:10 PM
I never signed up for anything and I still get those shitty emailsmy unity spam is getting way worse, I get 5-10 a day from people selling v1agra
4/23/2006 2:10:31 AM
^having trouble getting a woody?
4/23/2006 2:44:34 AM
^^Yeah, I've got about a dozen words blocked on the spam filter, but I still get several viagra ones on webmail.I get the Zspotlight ones too. At least they're local.

I don't use myspace. I think the university sold out to zSpotlight. I think I'm just going to sign their webmaster up for a ton of junk mail. The weirdest spam I keep getting lately is for stock updates. I get tons of bogus emails on stocks and investing advice with text attachments (viruses, I assume). Does anybody else get these in their webmail?
4/23/2006 3:07:28 PM
Thank goodness for Thunderbird. Made a filter just for zspotlight--anything with "zspotlight" anywhere on the email is auto deleted.
4/23/2006 3:59:32 PM
webmaster@zspotlight.com919.215.5000I just sent them a warning. One more spam and this could get ugly (and by ugly I mean I will harass them and whine and complain a lot)
4/23/2006 5:01:39 PM
Can't you just unsubscribe from the link at the bottom? What were they selling you stantheman? They are just an information site right?[Edited on April 23, 2006 at 5:30 PM. Reason : finish my question]
4/23/2006 5:25:19 PM
NEVER click on an unsubscribe link! And never fill in anything you find in the unsubscribe link. That makes you an "active" account and they will just send you more spam.
4/23/2006 5:47:17 PM
i get shit from them in my ncsu webmail which NEVER gets spammed.

4/24/2006 12:32:03 PM
zspotlight sucks. email warren and tell him to eat a dick.
4/24/2006 12:45:25 PM
I just called him. I found an address and land line number for his business partner. They're about to get spammed like crazy.
4/24/2006 12:50:23 PM
tell him the restaurant reviews suck balls and read like they were bought rather than actually reviewed.
4/24/2006 12:51:37 PM
I know him, what's your number? If you called him and left a message, he will call you back. You probably have better things to do, but if you really want to talk to him, let me know.
4/24/2006 12:58:07 PM
^I hit *67. Yeah, I'm paranoid, but I obviously can't trust this guy with my personal info. I just left him a generic complaint. Now that I got it out of my system, I'm about to do something productive.
4/24/2006 1:14:34 PM
I understand, well, he's a good guy and they do a lot of charity work with my company and the Jimmy V Foundation, so I'm sure nothing was done on purpose. They have helped a lot of friends I know with cancer. If you ever want him or any of his staff to contact you, let me know. Gotta get back to work!
4/24/2006 1:23:27 PM
I was getting these. I signed in and changed the email address from my unity one to a disposable address and haven't been getting these since.
4/24/2006 4:01:34 PM
the email that i get zspotlight emails on never gets spam. i don't think thats the cause of your spam
4/24/2006 10:50:25 PM
^zspotlight isn't causing other spam, Zspotlight IS spam.
4/25/2006 11:03:38 AM
Actually, if you've recently signed up to be on mailing lists of certain bars or other establishments in this area, chances are they gave your email addresses to the ZSL people (I know this for a fact for certain bars, not revealing names though). Warren himself his a really nice guy, but his web people and photogs are complete dumbasses.

4/25/2006 11:24:14 AM
Haha, definitely not Ruckus. I don't care if I have one more piece of spam in my mailbox, but the problem with their emails is that they are so graphic and html intensive, it completely freezes my email client for several precious seconds. Gah, what can I say, email the webmaster@zsl (whatever that email address is) and let them know they could get into trouble for this! (I'll mention it to Warren next time I see him)
4/25/2006 11:32:35 AM
^Please do mention it to him. He should have his web people fired for this.edit: just an FYI for you folks, send several dozen emails to webmaster@zspotlight.com with unsubscribe in the header and they'll get the message (i haven't had any spam from them in 2 days!)[Edited on April 25, 2006 at 3:00 PM. 4/25/2006 2:57:51 PM
DAMNIT I just got another one. Thankfully Thunderbird automatically tossed it in the trash for me.
4/26/2006 11:20:43 AM
Didn't think it was Ruckus...I just assumed they'd gone mining in the university directory.Fuckers.
4/26/2006 11:25:01 AM
I've just recently started getting these. I've been getting boatloads of pharmacy and stock things for about a year. The school sells our addresses. That's the only way I could get this crap because I've never used that address for anything.
4/26/2006 11:30:11 AM
I got mine today... originally i was getting them at my hotmail account because I signed up for them, but this one came thru unity. I know I didn't sign up for it because it was addressed to my @unity.ncsu.edu.... which I never use.I always use @ncsu.edusketchy sketchy
4/26/2006 11:47:01 AM
^ I was getting them to my @ncsu and @unity.ncsu addressThey're obviously mining the campus directories. But I think I'm off the list...for now.
4/26/2006 3:36:24 PM
I got another one today. Unity account is the only address that i have that gets them, and I don't get any other spam in my unity account. although i only use that for personal stuff and don't use that one when signing up for anything on a website.
4/26/2006 3:40:25 PM
stantheman, you should just drop it. Does sound like a campus thing. Yeah, I had two e-mail addresses too... ncsu and unity.nscu. This was probably the reason - had to unsubscribe both. anyway, it's just an information e-mail, nothing to waste anymore time over. gotta get to work, c-ya
