about people hitting animals and not stopping. I can see you hitting a rabbit or a squirrel and not stopping, but what about a pet like a dog or a cat? I'm serious...tonight someone hit my mom's dog and didn't even stop. He wouldn't have been out there, but he slipped out of his collar while we were walking him. The really sad thing is that they didn't even slow down (no skid marks or anything on the road). He was hit in the middle of the road, so you can't tell me they didn't see him unless they weren't paying attention...he is also not a small dog. I wish I knew who hit him. I don't know what I would do, but I would at the least let him/her know how much he hurt my family. If it were an accident and he/she didn't mean to, they could have at least stopped to tell my mom or to move the poor thing out of the middle of the road. Grr, I'm so mad...

people are animals too[Edited on April 20, 2006 at 8:25 PM. Reason : ^ you get points for making me lol]
I dunno, I've met some people who are more like fungus.

Maybe it was some ninety year old lady that can barely see over the steering wheel and honestly did not see your pet.Or, maybe it's time to grow up and realize that the majority of human beings are self absorbed assholes who rarely think about any except their own immediate pleasure.Either way, I am sorry about your mothers pet.
4/20/2006 8:30:21 PM
surely he wasnt just sitting in the road. I dont think anyone would risk their own safety and car to purposefully plow into a large animal in the middle of the street. sorry 'bout your dog though. some people are crazy protective over their pets and people dont wanna deal with that
4/20/2006 8:31:09 PM
I'm sorry. Assholes that run over pets and don't even feel the least bit bad should not be allowed to own pets. It's a shame how irresponsible people are.
4/20/2006 8:35:50 PM
i once hit 3 foxes after trying to avoid them by swerving and slowing down (the gf was beside me screaming)normally i drive as normal or speed up, assuming it's not a cow or deer
4/20/2006 8:36:51 PM
4/20/2006 8:40:42 PM
I hit a dog once, it ran out in the middle of a busy 4 lane road. WTF was I supposed to do, I couldn't swerve b/c of heavy traffic and couldn't brake in time. It walked away limping though so whatever.
4/20/2006 8:41:51 PM
my dog used to chase cars.. i was hoping one would give him a good wallop one time 'cause he just wouldnt listen to me (otherwise, he was awesome!). well one did give him a good wallop but he didnt learn a damn thing from it
4/20/2006 8:44:33 PM
4/20/2006 8:45:44 PM
YES... BECAUSE WHAT WE NEED IS A LAW THAT WOULD REQUIRE PEOPLE TO UNSAFELY STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRY TO HELP AN ANIMALOR.... INSTEAD... MAYBE WE COULD MAKE LAWS THAT RESTRICT PEOPLE FROM LETTING ANIMALS RUN FREE. WAIT... WE ALREADY HAVE THATIM NOT REALLY TYPING IN CAPS TO BE AN ASS, I JUST DIDNT NOTICE IT WAS ON AND DIDNT FEEL LIKE STARTING OVER

just because you didn't see skid marks doesn't mean they didn't slow down, it just means they didn't slam on their brakes. And if your dog didn't have a collar on, how were they supposed to come find you to tell you it was dead? Were these psychic car drivers? Was it right in front of your driveway?
4/20/2006 8:59:01 PM
In high school I was leaving my girlfriend's house coming home late one night and this dog jumped right out in front of my car as I was going about 70...I didn't have time to do shit, and if I did I would have ended up in a ditch.I could hear the dog ripping to pieces underneath my car...and the motherfucker took out one of my foglights...that shit was like $200. I felt bad....but I'll be damned if I'm going to try and go door-to-door with half a leg and a tail and asking people..."does this look like the leg and tail of your dog??? Because the rest of him is either stuck under my car or scattered about the road." Although I should have found the owners and asked them to pay for my foglight. Dumb fucking dog running out in the middle of the road.

4/20/2006 9:03:53 PM
damn, some of you people are inconsiderate cold-hearted fucking dickcheeses. TheTabbyCat, I'm sorry about your dog and someone should have stopped to at least tell your mom about it. Damn, she just lost a family pet, you people could show a little compassion.
4/20/2006 9:06:33 PM
4/20/2006 9:08:34 PM
no there shouldn't be. you shouldn't let your dog out if it cant cross the roadanimals = property. if you throw your property out in the road to be destroyed, it's your fault, not mine. Actually, I bet you could be liable for damages, too[Edited on April 20, 2006 at 9:11 PM. Reason : sdfsdf]

4/20/2006 9:09:25 PM
Yeah, the person making this thread should be behind bars for cruelty to animals, how could they be so cold hearted to let that happen?
4/20/2006 9:10:41 PM
Whatever, I should have known better than to post something like this on here...most of you people are rude and obnoxious...my bad for thinking someone might actually have a little compassion for animals....PS - Can someone please delete this thread before it gets any uglier?
4/20/2006 9:11:16 PM
I have a lot of compassion for animals, like NOT LETTING MY DOG RUN IN THE DAMN ROAD, that is like having a child get hit by a car and the parent not taking any blame
4/20/2006 9:13:29 PM
I would be fucking devestated if I accidentally killed a dog with my car, but I'm not about to go hunt you down to let you know about it. I didn't let the fucking dog loose, and once again, you said it was out of its collar, so how would I find you anyway?
4/20/2006 9:14:08 PM
so, being the animal loving family that yall are, why not view this as a chance to adopt a dog from a shelter?
4/20/2006 9:15:46 PM
Maybe the person who hit your dog felt really really bad and didn't want to deal with the whole situation of a depressed/pissed off owner.
4/20/2006 9:16:19 PM
A valid point was brought up though, and I think you are taking your hurt out on others pointing out the obvious. The dog didn't have a collar... therefore he looks like a stray and on a country road, that's not a horrible assumption to make. How is someone supposed to stop suddenly and not hit a dog? What could they have done if they stopped? There was no ID on the dog. For all you know, the person DID stop, saw no collar, figured it was a stray and went on their way. I'm not about to go to some random house in the country and say "Oh btw I hit a dog, have a good day".
4/20/2006 9:38:06 PM
our neighbor acroos the street hit our cat when i was little. she brought it over in a dog food bag.
4/20/2006 9:46:03 PM
the dog was right in front of our house...we are the only house on the road for probably 2 miles...from how it was laying in the road, you could tell that it had either just walked out of our driveway or walked out from in the shrubbery in front of our house...you can see my moms house from the road...we were even outside calling the dog and looking for it when it got hit...the dog was laying there alive in the road severely injured...im just saying, if it had been me, i would have turned around to figure out who the dog belonged to so they could get it to a vet, if it were still alive.[Edited on April 20, 2006 at 10:42 PM. Actually, if I am not mistaken you can be charge with a hit and run. At least that is what the Sheriff said when asked about it. Any vehicle accident is supposed to be reported.Oh and you should probably get a ticket for not having your dog on a leash, accidental slip or not.
4/20/2006 10:47:57 PM
4/20/2006 11:11:33 PM
The person may not have felt safe stopping at a stranger's house, especially if they were alone driving in the country.I'm sorry about your dog though.
4/20/2006 11:24:32 PM
To be perfectly honest, TheTabbyCat, I would have stopped, found your mother (the owner), and then bitched her the fuck out for putting me in a position like that. She woulda had to call me a fucking cab because there's no way I'm getting back behind the wheel for at least week after I kill a fucking family pet.I'm sorry for your loss, but at least you weren't the one who actually killed your dog. You put that particular burden on somebody else.(And by the way, I don't buy this big dog "slipped out of his collar" nonsense for shit.)[Edited on April 20, 2006 at 11:38 PM. Reason : sss]

well, if an accident is caused by a person slowing down to avoid an animal, that person is held responsible.my thoughts are this:because of worry like that (and insurance wont pay anything if you veer off the road into a ditch and not hit the animal) and the person does hit your dog, is it plausible for them to come to you with a bill for damages because your dog was off its leash?

I highly doubt anyone would get out and bitch someone else out on their own property. TheTabbyCat takes great care of her animals (and this was not her animal from my understanding), and all you fucking assholes need to stop making her look like a bad pet owner--when she was walking her mother's dog on a leash when it got loose. The only time someone should not slow down to avoid hitting an animal would be in heavy traffic or rain. I'm saying SLOW DOWN, NOT SWERVE.(^I don't care, I accidentally posted it as him thinking he logged out. heh.)[Edited on April 21, 2006 at 12:45 AM. Reason : k]
