4/18/2006 2:36:18 AM
well he made a final four and was a head coach in the nba...he's not the guy i wanted either, but his name is definitely bigger than most of the other guys we've mentionedmight as well get this started:welcome, coach kruger [Edited on April 18, 2006 at 2:39 AM. Reason : ]

Lon Kruger is a MUCH bigger name than "Herb Sendek" ever was....Remind me again how many NBA teams have come calling for Herb? And while you're at it, how many college teams? I mean ASU is a huge step down...

from the greensboro news and record (18 mins ago):Published: Apr 18, 2006 12:30 AMModified: Apr 18, 2006 02:31 AMDay 17: News of the dayHigh school resultsChip Alexander, Staff WriterCoaches close to Texas A&M's Billy Gillispie said Monday he'll likely stay with the Aggies. Gillispie's team went 22-9, losing in the NCAA Tournament second round to LSU. Four starters return, including Joseph Jones, a high-scoring 6-foot-9 sophomore, and junior guard Acie Law.BUZZ OF THE DAYWhile UNLV coach Lon Kruger's name has popped up as a potential candidate, UNLV athletics director Mike Hamrick says Kruger is staying put. Hamrick, the former AD at East Carolina, also noted that Kruger has a buyout clause in his contract. So does West Virginia coach John Beilein, and it's a big one: $3 million.WHAT THEY'RE SAYING"No one from N.C. State has contacted me, and I'm sure Lee Fowler would call me first if he wanted to talk to my coach. Lee is very professional and does things the right way." -- UNLV athletics director Mike Hamrick.http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/429813.html[Edited on April 18, 2006 at 2:45 AM. Reason : link]

i think someone said that they averaged about 58 attempted field goals per game, and only averaged 59.5 points. we averaged ~53 field goal attempts and ~74 ppg
4/18/2006 3:01:38 AM
not that it has to do with us, but this is kinda interesting. . . the guy at least seems. . . creative with recruting:
4/18/2006 3:08:00 AM
this is definitely a subpar resumeI hope this isn't true, but knowing our shitty luck, it probably is
4/18/2006 3:19:37 AM
this is gonna make the herb haters look like fucking douches
4/18/2006 3:27:50 AM
Subpar? Are you serious?I cant believe I have to do this.Coaching Stops:1) Looks like good work at Pan American. There's no need to look too closely at this. What he did at Pan American was ~25 years ago, it was his first coaching experience, and their situation is not the same as ours. But he did win there, so thats a good sign.2) Very good results at Kansas State. I have no idea what the program was like when he took over but I doubt they were making elite 8 appearances before him. He made the tournament all four years so that's a very good sign.3) His Florida experience is pretty impressive. He put up solid conference results in the SEC (a major conference) at fucking Florida. He made a FINAL FOUR at a school with no previous success in basketball. 4) His Illinois experience is solid. He posted good overall and conference records in the Big 10. I cant remember exactly what shape Illinois was in when he took over, but I know they were nowhere near elite status... I'm not sure what happened in the '98-99 season, but they bounced back strong the next season so it looks like an outlier.5) Atlanta Hawks. Who cares. Pitino, Montgomery, and many others have failed in the NBA. The Hawks fielded lousy rosters while he was there because their management sucks. College success/Pro Success are pretty independent anyway.6) UNLV. Only coached one season. No conclusions to draw since I didnt see the season.I'm sold. He doesnt make us instant title contenders or anything, but he looks like a solid hire.[Edited on April 18, 2006 at 3:43 AM. Reason : a]

how can someone 25 be eligible to play college basketball. is something wrong here?
4/18/2006 4:53:08 AM
^You can be 55 and play college basketball, as long as you are a college student, have never played professionally, and haven't used up your college eligibility.Chris Weinke was damn near 30...
4/18/2006 6:12:30 AM
there is no way in hell I want this guy as our coach

4/18/2006 8:44:20 AM
seriously, I hope Kruger is not a candidtate. Let him take over the program we get out coach from.
4/18/2006 8:58:36 AM
rallydurham, thank you for being the voice of reason in this thread...now the rest of you who don't have facts and are going to base it all on a career record, please be quiet and don't run off a coach before he even starts coaching.of course it's not the name anyone put out at first, but it's a solid hire if it happens
4/18/2006 9:07:32 AM
who the fuck are you?
4/18/2006 9:08:57 AM

You guys are fucking stupid. You are looking at ONE meaningless stat.Career wins/losses.When you evaluate Coach K, how much emphasis do you put on his career record at Army? This guy has much better results than Herb Sendek, that you can not argue.I mean he got results at shit schools like Kansas State and Florida. There is a huge difference between taking a perennial doormat like Florida to the Final Four and taking a 2nd tier program like NC State to the Sweet 16.Not to mention Kruger's Florida team played Duke tough in the Final four while Herb's team shit the bed against Wisconsin(!!!!)[Edited on April 18, 2006 at 9:23 AM.
