Rainer Maria tour for the new album "Catastrophe Keeps Us Together". I liked some of the new songs. Got my tickets. Who else is going?

I'd consider going for nostalgia if I weren't working.

I saw a friend's band there a couple weeks ago....I didn't really notice anything special about the sound, but then again I wasn't really paying attention.

oh cool. yeah, Bella Fea was late showing up, i think they thought they weren't going to show period, so they called up Maplestave to come play.

i liked them a fuck of a lot better than bella fea actually. i think they only got to play like 5 songs though. i'm suprised there isn't more buzz about these guys.

Yeah, I'm always kind of surprised when it's just the fan club at their shows (by which I mean me, sarijoul, and his brother who used to be in the band). They've been playing the triangle for maybe two years now, and they were around in Boone in some form or another long before that. I really fucking love them, and I think I'd feel the same if I didn't know them.

Eh, Maplestave was okay, but not opening band for Rainer Maria, and neither was Bella Fea for that matter. Here were my qualms with these bands.

Maplestave: Loads of energy, and an amazing drummer. However, none of their songs really stood out, their vocals were hella weak, and their energy didn't go anywhere, it was a big build up to...meh!

Bella Fea: I thought they were horrible. The only thing going for them was a cute chick who could play guitar. Their songs were all over the place, no direction at all. I'd liken it to a friend and I getting together, hashing out what would latter become a song.

I felt sorry for such a big veteran indie band like Rainer Maria for having to follow that up. They were basically playing a house show inside a club....

i completely disagree on all counts.
if by veteran for rainer maria you mean old and stale and rather boring these days, perhaps i agree on that count.

So you think Maplestave's vocals were good?

I thought Rainer Maria were quite refreshing after watching the first two bands...I don't know how that is "old and stale".

i couldn't tell if maplestave's vocals were good or not cuz i could barely hear them. my first thought was that they probably weren't necessary.

I have a feeling there was a reason they were turned down.

rainer maria sounds very old and very stale. catastrophe is a fucking adult contemporary yawn.

i don't think the point of maple stave's vocals are to be "good," per se. and i think bellafea's entire aesthetic is to make scrambled, angular math rock. that's the ethos the whole thing. listen to that family tree ep. when the songs are supposed to make sense, they do ("tara"). when they're meant to implode and collapse, they do.

I agree that their new album is nothing amazing, and maybe Bella Fea sounds better recorded, but I do know what I heard. Label it whatever genre you want, but at the show Rainer Maria snapped me out of coma that the first two bands were about to put me in.

I liked Maplestave musically, I had no idea what they were getting at lyrically for obvious reasons...

Bella Fea sucked, IMHO.

I really liked Rainer Maria but during the encore I requested to hear The Imperatives but was told it was too obscure, whatever the hell that means.

hey, i resent that !!

ahah

btu really, i dont particularly care to go and watch a band after an 8 hour exam that i havent kept up with at all, and probably wouldnt know anything they played, despite the fact that i used to really be into them and have seen them mulitple times before.

thats all.

i know rainer maria is old, but i was really surprised at the cheapness of the tickets, and the lack of people in attendance.

I haven't seen them since they lived here for however long, three or four months, but I don't remember paying more than maybe $8 to see them back then. They were never that popular.

I guess they are a band that I always convinced myself was more popular than they are. Just seems like I remember seeing their name around enough to warrant more than the 50 or 60 people that showed up last week.

I'm sure a big problem with the turn out was poor advertising.

I wouldnt have known about the show if it wasn't for tww.
