teaching is an easy profession to get in to, especially for women who may or may not be particularly smart, but want to go to college and get a degree in something.

Now before all the teachers advocates jump all over me - i'm not saying anything bad about teachers in general, or the value of good teachers, etc. But it is true that lots of girls go into Education programs because they just need to pick a major, and that's a good way to get through school relatively easily (kind of like why lots of guys pick Business) and be guaranteed a job somewhere.

Yeah it's probably easy to get a degree in, but once out in the work world they probably end up changing their minds and go back to school for a different one. There's continuing education and certification in teaching, without which you would make no money.

I will reitterate once again - I'm saying nothing about how hard it is to be a teacher, much less a good one. I will gladly concede that it is a demanding profession and teacher are under paid, overworked, and undervalued. BUT, my point still remains - for lots of girls who just want to get through school with some kind of degree, they will jump into a Education Program and probably graduate with not much of a problem, get a job where they think they will just spend all day playing with little kids, then sink under all the work and stress, and end up quitting..... or having sex with a 13 year old.

My damn wife has a teaching degree (she currently is a professional athlete, but will go into teaching when she's done with that), so you can be sure, for my own preservation, i'm saying nothing bad about teachers, their education, or their careers. I think you'll see that we are basically in agreement on all these points.
