My lil bro is in an Illustrator course, but it sucks.

Anyone know any online references/guides for someone who is still a beginner but knows the basics? Walkthroughs and movies are best, then text.

Thanks.

http://www.lynda.com is a great source, but it's not free.

If anything, tell him to pick work he enjoys, by finding it online or in magazines and try to mimic it. Even if he finds ways around doing it the right way, he'll still learn something.

^worst idea ever. picking up bad habits in illustrator/photoshop is a bad bad road to go down.

He needs to go get a book from the library or barnes & nobles.

^for what illustrator is good for, it's like telling someone to hold a brush a certain way while making a peice of art. but to all his own. self teaching is sometimes the most satisfying.

No it's not. illustrator is not a fucking painting application. its a vector illustration program. And learning the most efficient methods to do common tasks is very hard to do on your own just fucking around.

Especially if you are trying to do anything productive with any Adobe app.
