I am in the process of trying to get a course drop. My reasons are legitament and I am getting something from the consuling center. The only thing I have left to do is to write a professional memo about what went wrong. Any suggestions on how things should be worded, things that should be out in or things that should definantly left out?

I would encourage you to speak from the heart, include plenty of detail. If you are concerned about some of the items in terms of violating privacy, then I would leave those out or speak about them in general terms.

memo? don't you just have to get some forms signed to drop a course late?

^you have to get several forms filled out, talk to your professor, advisor, dean, have documention of a medical or physcological problem, as well as write a memo about why you want to drop it.

Also is it easier to drop or switch to credit only or does it not really matter

1. be upfront and to the point.
2. speak honestly and as openly as you can
3. as for the credit only bit, if you have to retake the course or need a grade for any reason, then go with the full drop. If you are sure you are above a C (needed to get credit) and have no other need for the course then go with the credit only. Few classes though count as credit only so it must be under the 'free elective' bit and typically will not help you (unless it is a PE).
