you could always order it from places like sigma-aldrich. or it looks like there are several places online - i.e. http://tinyurl.com/98r8wcheck lowes or home depot or other hardware stores. last time i was there they had toluene, MEK, and a few others in the paint section. they might carry MeOH.

The only thing they carry is denatured alcohol.I'm presuming that denatured alcohol is 95% ethanol with 5% gasoline or Stoddard solvent added as a denaturing agent.

You fuckers need to give me more responses here.I got biodiesel to make, and what with burning 30 to 40 gallons of fuel a week, a nigga goin' broke around here.
4/13/2006 1:19:06 AM
why not just run straight veg oil?
4/13/2006 2:28:13 AM
I gotta either heat it or cut it, and I'd just as soon have something I can dump in the tank and not worry about. One thing I'm interested in knowing...will SVO eventually end up varnishing my fuel system or injectors? I really thought about cutting it 50/50 with petro-diesel...but I'd rather have all of the benefits of biodiesel (higher cetane, known less particulate pollution, no toxicity) over a blend of petro and veggie oil.
4/13/2006 2:45:35 AM
for every 100 gallons of ethanol, they put 1 gallon of MIBK and 5 gallons of kerosene
4/13/2006 9:01:31 AM
watch out.. dan's lookin for some meth.
4/13/2006 10:22:26 AM
from what I have read as soon as you switch to the veggie fuel be ready to change your filter a few times because of the crud it dislodges in your system. it wont hurt your stuff but will clog a filter. you might need to add a lucas or standyne type additive because of the lubricity of the vegetable oil. http://www.thedieselstop.com is all about the fords and strokes but several members there use bio fuel or waste vegetable oil and have hit all the bumps in the road.

you can always check out the go-kart racing on sat. nights down at 40-42. it's fun to watch and they sell methanol.

I forgot about JoCo Speedway. Damn. I'll be gone this weekend, but maybe next...
4/13/2006 11:42:23 PM
i bet you could get those fucks at Fountain dining hall to give you their old grease

From what I understand, SVO doesn't harm anything when tuned/filtered/heated properly. It's actually has greater detergent and lubricant properties than gasoline/diesel, in addition to burning cleaner...You can also run bi-fuel diesel/SVO systems where the engine runs on diesel until it's up to temperature and thereafter the SVO is heated by engine coolant... of course, you have to manually switch fuels with all of the systems I'm aware of, but there's no reason you couldn't h4x something together to automagically switch over after warming up (you'd still have to switch over manually before shutdown though, I can't think of any way to avoud that).[Edited on April 16, 2006 at 3:56 AM.
