chad ford over on espninsiders said cedric is leaning towards the NBA Draft b/c herb left & a lot of the big guys have pulled out (Horford, Noah) and is projected as a late 1st round pick.
4/10/2006 5:01:52 PM
yeah but if cal comes here and we do what we're capable of, ced could be a lottery pick in 1-2 years.
4/10/2006 5:02:37 PM
nooo dont pull a josh powell
4/10/2006 5:02:50 PM
i agree w/ WOLF. i thought this was some kind of sick joke when i read it. it would be a career ending/altering move
4/10/2006 5:03:42 PM
Cedric isn't NBA material at the moment. If he goes to the draft, he'll end up the way of Hodge and spend his first few years in the NBADL.Or he could stay and help usher in the Calipari-era.
4/10/2006 5:06:09 PM
hes not even half as good as Josh was when he left and Josh didnt get drafted!!! keep your azz here Ced

^^^Hey, it's not a done deal. Be careful of talking like it is, it's bad mojo.It occurs to me that he could be waiting to see who we bring in as coach? And that he might sit down and discuss it with that person? Don't get all worked up yet.[Edited on April 10, 2006 at 5:09 PM. Reason : d]
4/10/2006 5:09:24 PM
This would be a worse move than the Josh Powell situation. At least JP had a strong finish to his sophomore year. Why leave on the cusp of getting a coach that will actually utilize and develop a big man?Ced is very talented but still too raw. The only thing going for him is a weak draft, but it isn't that weak. Can't blame him if he doesn't get an agent, and just wants to get a free evaluation before coming back, though.
4/10/2006 5:09:59 PM
PanthroDude, you're killing me. (If that shit all comes true, you should be named Athletic Director at NC State)
4/10/2006 5:11:04 PM
too bad only one has come true. and that was a good thing.
4/10/2006 5:15:56 PM
COME ON CED, STICK AROUND BUDDY
4/10/2006 5:16:35 PM
If ced leaves I'm dropping out. We'll both be working at McDonalds in a year.
4/10/2006 5:19:59 PM
if all that shit comes true i will take it as divine intervention for me to find a new favorite team
4/10/2006 5:20:54 PM
4/10/2006 5:22:58 PM
I can't believe that Ced would be dumb enough to leave. Geez, he DEFINITELY shouldn't leave until he knows who our head coach would be. I have to believe that whoever comes in might change the offense to the point where Ced would actually be the focal point. And really, he should have learned from Josh Powell.

He gets tossed around like a rag doll by the ACC, put on some pounds Ced!
4/11/2006 12:50:54 AM
he doesnt even have a chance in the NBADL right now
4/11/2006 12:52:36 AM
His family is dirt poor I hear. He needs to look at it like this...If he stays in college and beefs up for 2 more years, he's gonna be a high draft pick.If he stays in college and beefs up for 2 more years, he's gonna leave with his degree. If he leaves this year, he's still gonna be dirt poor, and I might shoot him.
4/11/2006 12:52:41 AM
^ all good points there
4/11/2006 12:54:32 AM
4/11/2006 12:54:40 AM
Even if he stays...it's only going to be for one more year. You guys thinking he'll be here for two more years are out of your mind. Only reason I could see him staying for his senior year would be that next year's draft would be loaded. This year's draft is ANEMIC. You can't really blame him for taking a look. If he doesn't have a big year, he could go lower in the draft next year than he would this year. The draft is a crazy thing....
4/11/2006 12:56:21 AM
Yes sir, In big games excluding the Duke game, People like Eric Williams, Aldridge, and Other big centers pushed him off the block and made him look for the entry near the top of the key as opposed to on the block near the basket. Cedric needs to put on weight, period.
4/11/2006 12:56:30 AM
I don't think he'll ever be good enough to really succeed in the NBA. Are my senses that wrong?
4/11/2006 12:59:41 AM
^^That's wrong. Weight is bad for his body frame. He needs to get quicker, more aggressive, and athletic.^yes they are[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:01 AM. Reason : sdfsdf]

HIS FAMILY IS DIRT FUCKING POORIF HE'S EVEN BORDERLINE FIRST ROUND/SECOND ROUND HE BETTER GET HIS FUCKING DEGREE, EVEN IF IT IS IN PRT...ITS STILL A DEGREE. /ihatespidaThats why I think he could stick around...but if someone gives him bad advice and he never makes the NBA, I'm gonna feel really bad for the kid, so I just hope he stays.
4/11/2006 1:02:16 AM
panthro is crazy, ced does not have the talent to go nba he has the potential to be a great player, yet he needs to play more[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:05 AM. Reason : i must edit]
4/11/2006 1:04:19 AM
No Ced needs weight, I don't mean 60 lbs I mean 20 lbs. He just doesn't have the weight to post up effectivly against the bruts of the ACC, ie E.Will, T.Hans, etc.
4/11/2006 1:10:10 AM
Ced's best decision is most likely to stay for one more season. If he played in a pro-style offense under a coach like Calipari his stock would soar.Herb Sendek was probably the only man in college basketball capable of holding Cedric Simmons down last year. You put Ced on the block and he would have been a household name last year.Ced has started developing a shot and his post moves improved immensely last year. Combine that with his frame and he has lottery pick written all over him in 2007.Right now he's just too raw and isn't even a lock to be a first round pick.If he goes, i wish him the best of luck but for all of our sakes I hope he decides to stay for one more year.We should easily be one of the top 15-20 teams in the country next year if he returns.
4/11/2006 1:12:42 AM
15-20 lbs would do wonders for ced, especially lower body. His frame is NOT maxed out where he is, all its gonna do is take an inch off his vertical for a couple of months until he gets used to the weight.
4/11/2006 1:14:07 AM
Dudes, he looks like one of those kids that didn't play sports until the people around him realized how tall he was going to be. That assertion may reveal my ignorance of Simmons' sports history, but for real.Like, the walking calls he receives are pretty basic. For most players, it's automatic. A player can be in the midst of the game, and you can stop the game and ask him, "Which one was your pivot foot?" and he won't be able to tell you. He just knows. It's engrained. But with Ced, his walking calls are just plain weird, like, "have you ever played basketball before?"
4/11/2006 1:20:57 AM
He could use a little more muscle, but he already has a pretty good frame.I have always said he could be a lot like Camby.and hey, guess who might be coaching here next season Final 4, here we come.
4/11/2006 1:22:57 AM
I petition to keep womenz out of sports talk because this one obviously doesnt know what the fuck she's talking about. He's raw, but he's nasty. All he needs is to work a little on his footing and get a little better touch around the basket, and he'll be ridiculously good. Where the hell did "he's never played basketball before" come from?If anyone, thats Gavin Grant, who obviously plays games after puting crisco on his hands.
4/11/2006 1:24:24 AM
I'm just shooting to make the field, I really am not sure if we are top 15 caliber. We are very young next year and we will be hurting at the Point. Who is going to play 4 is also a concern. I guess that between Fells, Simmons, and Grant we could be very athletic and very quick which would work for Cal. I just don't think we have the PG to run that offense to its potential and who will play 4?
4/11/2006 1:26:13 AM
panthro is a fucking idiot
4/11/2006 1:28:16 AM
Atsur, Grant, Fells, Costner, Simmons. That lineup is fucking sick if we get a coach who allows them to PLAY.That starting five is probably the best in the ACC.And the bench isnt THAT weak assuming we get some production out of Larry Davis, Dennis Horner, Dan Werner, or Trevor Ferguson.McCauley should get better and hopefully we get Brackman back too.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:35 AM. ^The sad part is we could have put that crew out on the floor this past season + bethel and bennerman. THANKS HERB
4/11/2006 1:34:13 AM
wolfAApack, please do not let me taint all women who post in Sports Talk. And I've made this point many times before, but I suppose it deserves repeating. There are plenty of men who post nonsense in Sports Talk; it's not just women.I am genuinely unimpressed with Cedric Simmons.Maybe he's been "held down" by Sendek, like some are suggesting.I think he looks like a guy who's playing basketball because he's tall, not talented.
4/11/2006 1:35:01 AM
K But its still a ridiculous observation. Its more like he was brilliant sometimes and never got the ball other times, and his teammates didnt know how to throw an entry pass, so he looked stupid because of them. You dont drop 28 points...against the best center in the league, even if it was just one game...and have 13 boards, 13 points, and 8 blocks against a good iowa team...and get the "he just plays because he's tall" generalization. He's good, he just didnt have a coach and lacked 15 pounds last year.
4/11/2006 1:39:39 AM
Bridget, in general Centers arent "good" at basketball and are only on the team because they are tall.I mean I could outshoot 90% of the centers in the NBA from the three point line.It doesn't mean they aren't one of the most valuable players on the court or that I wouldn't be the worst player on the court in ANY division 1 or d-2 college basketball game.Look at the improvement in Simmons from this year to last.Keep in mind Simmons played on an absolutely HORRIBLE high school team so he didn't have the kind of teaching that a more polished center (say Jordan Collins) had before coming to college. On his best days Cedric is absolutely dominating inside. He has quick feet and makes aggressive moves to the basket. His best assest is the ability to dominate defensively. People underestimate what a shot-blocking presence who completely denies easy baskets can do for a team.Leon Powe was probably the best inside scorer in the country and he kept him from getting off against us. We played like complete dogshit and still won a NCAA tournament game becasue of his defensive presence.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 1:43 AM. Reason : a]
4/11/2006 1:42:14 AM
The reason he didn't get the ball was because he got pushed of the block like he was nothing!
4/11/2006 1:44:38 AM
^that didnt help....but thats where I mentioned 15 lbs
4/11/2006 1:48:38 AM
^^ that's laughable. The reason he didnt get the ball on the block was because we didnt put him there on offense. He absolutley molested Shelden Williams 1 on 1.He drew tons of fouls throughout the season and was consistently double teamed. He is a pretty good passer/ball handler for someone his size. His jumphook isnt half bad. He's a relatively good FT shooter for a big man.Let's be clear about this.If Cedric returns next season we are going to be good. Really good.If Cedric bolts, we are a borderline tournament team.[Edited on April 11, 2006 at 2:03 AM. Reason : ^^]
