sign up for blockbuster in store unlimitted rental thing. its like $30 a month, but 1 month of it is better than 2 or 3 months of any online system.

jesus christ that's the worst idea i've ever heard.
i use netflix because they have a huge selection. i like to rent seasons of television programs and such. blockbuster has a SHITTY selection.

so why would i pay TWICE what i normally pay for that?

with netflix, you can maybe get 15 a month, with blockbuster you could get as many as you could watch(or burn), so like 30 + in a month if you wanted

From what I have come to understand this has been going on for ages. I might be remembering wrong but I think this may have even gone to trial.

Netflix will purposely put you on the slow track when they find out you are a 'super user'. It's no secret.

i doubt smath is a super user, but that do i know. smath you can check your checkout history in your account.

but even for super renters it shouldnt move nearly that slow. received last wed. with no dvds since then? check your queue, whats it say? it should say at the top what the current status is.

one option if you are a high volume renter is to close and reopen your account.

i emailed them earlier, and now it says "shipping today" for my next 3.

so i won't get them for a week after i sent them back. that is some fucking horseshit. i'm used to sending them back, and getting a new set 2 days later.

that website is crap. it was written in 2003, maybe some of those opinions had some degree of validity back them, but many of the complaints are incorrect today.

Quote :
"Slow turnaround time (from the time you return a movie and get one back is approx. 1 wk.) "

I have 2 day turnaround here in Raleigh (mail Monday, get Wednesday), sometimes even next day if i mail them early enough. and i normally check out at least 15 per month

Quote :
"Most DVDs are badly scratched and may not play (advice) "

thats crap. i admit, it is frustrating for it to hang halfway thru a movie but it BARELY happens. I've been a customer for over around 8 months and only had 3 that wouldn't play all the way thru.

Quote :
"Broken & lost DVDs through the mail "

never got a broken one, never didn't revceive one. a couple of times theyve been a day late, but thats it.

Quote :
"Rentals do not arrive in the order requested "

their system for what dvds they ship to you is clearly posted on their website.

Quote :
"No shipments on Saturday, Sunday or holidays "

i thought they do ship on saturday, and what does he expect them to do, start their own shipping company?

use blockbuster.com its a much better copycat service. if you read the terms of service to netflix there is a limit of dvds you can have at like 3 per week or something. there was a thread about it a while back. i dont know where netflix is but blockbuster is in maryland so shipping always takes only 1 day.

It's happening to me, too. I'm waiting movies to arrive there since last Thu. But it's the first time they do something like this. Usually, it's like somebody said: put on post before noon on Wed, arrives there on Thu, new set arrives at home on Fri.

"Netflix typically sends about 13 movies per month to Villanueva's home in Warren, Mich. — down from the 18 to 22 DVDs he once received before the company's automated system identified him as a heavy renter and began delaying his shipments to protect its profits.

The same Netflix formula also shoves Villanueva to the back of the line for the most-wanted DVDs, so the service can send those popular flicks to new subscribers and infrequent renters.

The little-known practice, called "throttling" by critics, means Netflix customers who pay the same price for the same service are often treated differently, depending on their rental patterns.

Might help to read this page
http://www.netflix.com/TermsOfUse
Quote :
"In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service. As a result, those subscribers who receive the most movies may experience that (i) the shipment of their next available DVD occurs at least one business day following return of their previously viewed movie, (ii) delivery takes longer, as the shipments may not be processed from their local distribution center and (iii) they receive movies lower in their queue more often than our other subscribers. Other factors that may affect delivery times, include, but are not limited to, (i) the distance between the distribution center from which your DVD was shipped and your delivery address, (ii) the timing of your placement or adjustment of movies in your queue and (iii) circumstances impacting delivery by the U.S. Postal Service."

I didn't read all of the thread but i had the blockbuster unlimitted thing for a long time and i hated it. All the new rentals i wanted were always out of stock and i could only end up getting a few per month because of that. My boyfriend and i just changed over to netflix and so far it's been working out fine. We have the set up where you get two movies at a time. We watch one and send it back in and watch the other while we wait for the next one. It seems to be a pretty good set up. We'll see when we're not the "new clients" anymore.

i've noticed this has happened to more than one person so far this week. maybe its some problem at their raleigh distribution site. i'm a relatively new user (2 weeks) and this is the first time i turned a movie in and did not get a received dvd email the next day...

this happens to lots. it happened to one of my roommates and she reported that shit as lost. they started sending her her stuff on time after that. I don't think she's had a problem since.

yeah, i have one of my shipping envelopes right here. the address is:

Nearest Netflix Shipping Facility
PO Box 900033
Raleigh, NC 27690

Which is why I usually get them back so quickly. But I'm not worried, its probably only a momentary setback.

(unless the shipping facilities and distribution sites are different)

Nope, its been that way since atleast last august.

Quote :
"their system for what dvds they ship to you is clearly posted on their website."

that doesn't mean shit, ive had movies that supposedly ship on a monday and come on a friday and the same week have a movie ship on wednesday and get it on thursday. It all depends on where the movie is coming from. I live in Newport News, VA and the nearest facility is in Richmond. Sometimes I get movies from Gaithersburg, MD and one time got one from Austin, TX. They claim that the shipping site varies sometimes because not all locations have the movie you want. But the one from TX was a brand new release of a popular movie, so I don't see how it would have to come from there. But that is another story.

Quote :

Happens quite frequently for me, especially if it is a movie that isn't a fairly new release.

I have not recieved 1 dvd in the year i have been a member. It supposedly shipped on a monday, and then showed up on the website as recieved on thursday. Then like 2 weeks later I get a blockbuster DVD, with my netflix label on it (and the envalope was all torn up). So I am guessing the mail sorter ate both the blockbuster one being sent to someone else and mine and the mail clerk combined them and my dvd got sent back to netflix while the blockbuster dvd got sent to me. According to my dad (who works for the post office), it is quite common that the mail sorting machines eat these mail order dvds.
