^ ThanksIt sounds like it is simply a money thing, which many of us have known all along. That said, it also seems that Fowler is finally gonna put up the money to get a good coach. I told a friend of mine that this whole Barnes thing would be fun because we get to screw Texas either way. One, we take their coach....or two we make them pay more money to keep their own coach. Small Victories. If Barnes doesn't bite off such a big offer someone will....someone big!!
4/4/2006 1:15:54 PM
barnes is already making 1.3 million a year... pumping that up to 1.5 mil probably isn't too big of a problem for Texas Athletics
4/4/2006 1:17:40 PM
^^You are right, but then again....I bet they hate to do it for basketball and not for football. I bet Fowler will go higher too. We have more money than people think....so what's another 300,00 for us.
4/4/2006 1:19:34 PM
true, there's some thread on here that shows us as the number 3 or 3 highest grossing public bball programs in the country (something like 8.5 million a year)... we can just cut out women's volleyball...
4/4/2006 1:20:42 PM
Look at it this way, if we WOULD have actually fired Herb that's 800K a year we would've eaten for 4 years. Ontop of that we would have payed someone around the same price or maybe an even mil. SO now that Herb has left, we don't eat his contract, so we could just as easily start our offer at 1.8mil.....

Alright, so we have established that we have plent of money. I also like the comment about the extra dough we have since Herb left and we didn't buy him out. If Fowler doesn't throw some serious bank around now he is gonna get in some deep shit.
4/4/2006 1:23:31 PM
thanks for repeating whats already been said.

For what it's worth from the other board...
4/4/2006 1:43:31 PM
i saw that too, but i call BS. we never made an "official" offer, so how could he "officially" turn us down?
4/4/2006 1:47:29 PM
umm, the same way they reported Herb was "officially" taking the Arizona State job before he "officially" did.
4/4/2006 1:50:08 PM
If he officially signed an official contract extension, then that would officially do it... officially. ]
4/4/2006 1:50:52 PM
onto our 4th choice....no big name......young with potential.....hmmmm, sounds familiar.....
4/4/2006 1:51:47 PM
Too early to talk about moving away from big names. none look that promising I admit. All the I'm happy where I am is crap anyways, not to say they aren't though.Herb said something along the lines of "I am looking to the promising future of this program and have no inention of leaving" after we played Texas.[Edited on April 4, 2006 at 1:54 PM. let's say in some fantasy land, ncsu had made it to the final four this year. do you think herb still would have left?i guess maybe fowler would have fought to keep him.
4/4/2006 1:55:31 PM
no i don't think he would have left. but none of the coaches who we are talking about did either
4/4/2006 1:56:47 PM
4/4/2006 1:59:51 PM
Can we get a young female with alot of potential??? III
4/4/2006 2:03:03 PM
^^i think we've given him numbers but no official offer. i'm sure asu was talking to herb before the "official" offer was made. if he didn't show interest, there never would have been an offer.i'm saying we haven't made an official offer, so there's no way he could officially decline. he could say no in the low-key discussions, but that would never come out as him officially saying no. all he would do in that case is sign a new contract with texas and say he's not leaving. i dont think we will ever meet with him directly unless he actually comes here.
4/4/2006 2:21:31 PM
barnes is coming to state ... you heard it here first
4/4/2006 4:38:47 PM

4/4/2006 4:40:41 PM
If by "heard it here first" you mean, "didn't hear it here first" then yes, yes I did hear it here first.
