I highly recommend the MSF Basic Rider Course. I took it last weekend in Greensboro. I rode a motorcycle for the first time Saturday morning. By Sunday afternoon, I felt comfortable enough with one to go out and get started on my own (though I have not bought a bike yet). I can't imagine a better way to learn the basics. Wake Tech also offers the course if you're interested. Be ready for crazy insurance costs. It would be over a hundred per month for me with Progressive and my driving record is perfect.

That's almost as much as my GTI, and that has full coverage.

damn, my truck is close to $1100 a year for full coverage, but i also have theft coverage on all my tools, which are worth almost as much as the truck.

I gave up on full coverage pretty quickly. Progressive quoted me 572/mo for a new Honda 599 with collision. It only went down about to about 470/mo for a used one. I will definitely keep looking for quotes though.

try nationwide, thats who i'm with and they are very reasonable, and they go by engine size, liability on my '81 virago 920 was $100 more than my '97 750 magna would have been

any good intermediate riding courses around here? i planning on heading up to the mountains with my dad some people for the first time in two years and i need a good refresher and possibly somewhere to put this bike through a good shakedown before i head up there. i have a feeling the highway bar and front pegs are gonna need to be shortened. i drag them on mild turns around here.

i dont really think ur bike is meant for fast mountain riding, i wouldnt want to shorten the bars, if it doesnt mess up the "look" of the bike i guess go for it.
