so i have a goatee and sideburns. I will soon be interviewing for jobs and whatnot. (specifically, teaching)should i trim them short, shave them off, grow them out, what?
3/29/2006 9:11:24 PM
Weigh the risk and reward, and make a decision for yourself, dumbass. It really isn't hard. If you need Dr. WolfWeb for this one, you shouldn't be employed anywhere.
3/29/2006 9:16:07 PM
save that shit for chit chat. i'm asking a serious question here. fashions change, and so do attitudes toward different types of facial hair.
3/29/2006 9:17:54 PM
I asked this same question...I have full sideburns and a goatee as well, and before my interview I used an electric trimmer to get them as short as possible ("1" setting). I also had my hair cut pretty short so it looked "neat" rather than "just got outta bed".If you looked well groomed it should help...I got the job too btw
3/29/2006 9:25:24 PM
shave them offBetter to be safe than sorry. It pays to look professional sometimes and a goatee does not exude professionalism, usually.
3/29/2006 9:37:57 PM
I'd probably say the same thing, particularly for teaching. Worse comes to worse it grows back.
3/29/2006 9:39:04 PM
Yeah but teachers don't make $hit. Leave it be. Aren't they desperate for teachers now-a-days?
3/29/2006 11:18:46 PM
it all depends on the company. I'm applying for post-MBA jobs right now. For things like Coke brand management and IBM leadership programs, I shaved. For botique firms (which is a lot of my focus now), I go with my everyday look - facial hair and burns (thou I keep them both trimmed pretty short with a beard trimmer)...of course these places have VP's wearing jeans to work
3/29/2006 11:38:21 PM
always best to ere on the side of caution. If the company is cool w/ sideburns and goatee...then just grow them back out.
3/30/2006 9:55:24 AM
go with a hitler mustache
3/30/2006 11:47:50 AM
as long as your facial hair is well groomed, it shouldnt be a problem
3/30/2006 12:30:05 PM
3/30/2006 12:37:24 PM
so i probably shouldn't get that facial tattoo that I was thinking about then??
3/30/2006 12:40:12 PM
i did take out my facial piercings for the interviews, however.
3/30/2006 12:41:40 PM
Shave and remove all piercings, unless you're auditioning for a job with Orange County Choppers or something along those lines. Then it is ok for you to have facial hair/tattoos/piercings/gold teeth/chains You get the picture....
3/30/2006 1:44:57 PM
put it this wayis the potential good $ good enough to deal with possible nazis who worry that much about such things?if so, shaveif not, dont
3/30/2006 2:15:07 PM
3/31/2006 8:56:48 PM
i've got a baby face now.
3/31/2006 9:05:22 PM
bottom linedont get tattoosdont get piercingsdont get facial hairand you're good to go-ZiP!-
4/1/2006 7:33:57 PM
shave it unless you are going into law enforcement....then by all means grow the best "porn stache" that you are capable of growing.
4/1/2006 10:12:03 PM
shaving is the best option.get the job, then grow it back.
4/2/2006 3:57:08 AM
I had plenty of high school teachers from NCSU (teaching fellows) with the facial hair you described. Focus on looking well groomed.
4/2/2006 12:03:54 PM
rock what looks best on you
4/2/2006 4:05:15 PM
is this thread a joke? in nearly 100% of the cases you're either going to be perceived the same or better with a clean face. the same can't be said for people who rock the hairy look. unless you're trying to teach at lumberjack school (which, if i had to pick one person off of tdub who looks the part, its you) shave it all off and let it regrow when you think its ok.
4/3/2006 4:32:59 PM
aha vs.
4/3/2006 5:11:22 PM
^ The chest hair amplifies it.Look strictly at the face and the guy still looks pretty groomed.
4/3/2006 5:37:23 PM
hahaha
4/3/2006 6:07:58 PM
he might look pretty groomed, but then again you can't really smell him through the jpeg
4/3/2006 8:11:16 PM
You look like an overgrown four year old without facial hair.I mean that in the best way possible.
4/4/2006 10:56:31 PM
that picture was taken about 3 years ago btw.
4/4/2006 11:00:34 PM
So maybe you'll look 7?
4/4/2006 11:04:24 PM
Go with the "Yassir".
4/5/2006 12:22:19 AM
so if i look like i'm 7 now, then when i'm 40 i'll look like i'm 19, and i'll be able to pick up 18 year old chicks? i hope so.
4/5/2006 1:50:29 AM
i'd say shave it. just as a hedge. what people are saying about it not mattering with all hr people is totally true, but it's honestly better to be safe than sorry. never know if you're going to interview with an appearance nazi.
4/5/2006 2:18:26 AM
yeah i've already done it. i got a haircut too.
4/5/2006 2:54:09 AM
good thing is, it sounds like you're going into a job where you can grow it back if you want to.i'm doomed to be short-haired and clean-shaven for my entire career.[Edited on April 6, 2006 at 12:29 AM. Reason : ]
4/6/2006 12:28:56 AM
I didn't realize that whiney liberal was a paying job[Edited on April 6, 2006 at 1:02 AM. Reason : dsf]
4/6/2006 1:02:20 AM
yeah. it's not like i can't grow it back in a week.
4/6/2006 1:59:59 AM
I just got a job offer at an international consulting firm with a ponytail over a foot long. But I did shave the sideburns and goatee.
