I'm not joking, I really do embrace the challenege. (teaching at the "Alternative School")That's GOTTA be worth something on your resume':"Taught kids that might kill a bitch."

Great! I think it could be a wonderful experience. let us know more about it as you go through it. I am curious about the backgrounds and needs of these kids. How many have undiagnosed behavioral disorders that the regular schools could not see, could not deal with? How much of their behavior has been spurred on by family, home, other environments. Good luck. i hope you can make a difference.

You should listen to Gangster's Paradise by Coolio to get yourself pumped.

^^^ That's a good question... I'm in TIGHT with the principle, he's my 2nd father (not literally) and mentor, basically. It's really amazing the kids you see... I've spent a lot of time with them...One kid is in 8th grade... I'm working with him on 1st grade reading and 3rd grade math. One kid took a swing at me...Some are so smart, they just can't handle the classroom. Some really need remedial help and are as sweet as they can be. Some are sociopaths, or kleptomaniacs...I had the unique experience of sitting in on a session with a counselor and 5 kids for an anger management session. It was tough to get them settled down at first but after that and things started coming out... about their parents... the abuse. I was a splash of cold water to me.

I was thinking more...Good work, though. My older sister teaches 2nd grade at the most ghetto elementary school in Columbia, Sc. She says it's incredibly trying, but rewarding.[Edited on March 29, 2006 at 11:16 PM. Reason : ]

Just substitute teaching on the side. I figure it's good job experience (boot camp). I keep a log. Like I said I think it'll help get me into teaching school.Prolly with Coach... (the principal at that school) that should be fun.Besides why not work a little and make back those taxes I spend to the state while helpin' "yougins" as Coach puts it.
