My dog will not stop shedding. What can I do other than brush her? Does anyone have any tips or anything that worked well for them? Thanks!

get one of the fine toothed combs that removes the undercoatthat is the layer that sheds the most. remove that layer and you'll find a lot less hair on the furniture and carpet[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 8:25 PM. Reason : ,]

THis is why I like dogs with "hair" instead of fur. Sure the grooming bill is tough on the pocketbook but I love having next to noething in terms of shedding.

I'm going to be as gentle as I possibly can with this:If you honestly thought there was a way to make your dog stop shedding, you should probably be put down.Failing that, the problem will lessen by mid/late summer...the reason it's shedding right now is because the weather's about to get hot as balls and it doesn't need a fucking parka for that. In short: It's seasonal.[Edited on March 26, 2006 at 3:02 AM. Reason : ]

Some breeds shed more then others...you can't really get around that. You can however brush her everyday...if she gets stressed when you brush her, you'll probably see "dandruff" (but that's partially a sign she stressed, possibly also b/c she might have dry, itchy skin). Try to make it a "fun" experience, and don't forget the treats! Also, what are you feeding her? The grocery store brands have a LOT of crap in them...higher quality organic/premium dog foods have much better ingredients and you actually end up paying about the same in the long run for them as you would a cheaper, lower quality food. Do you supplement your girl with salmon oil (or anything else with Omega Fatty Acids?) Find a supplement (be it through treats or a liquid supplement) to start adding into her diet. It will greatly improve the condition of her skin and coat and, theoretically, will reduce the amount of shedding (note: it will not PREVENT it, all dogs shed! And, like I mentioned earlier, some just shed more...much more...then others). Good luck

My dog sheds all the time, but he sheds almost his entire coat twice a year. In the fall he loses his summer coat and in the early spring he loses his winter coat. It sucks, but it happens. You should brush her once a day. We use a shed-blade and a regular wire brush. You can try the supplements for a healthier coat, but that doesn't really help during season changes.
