I'd put money on any DNA evidence gathered being thrown out of court on this one...otherwise this will open the door to shit like "let's get DNA from every black man because the victim said he was black"
3/24/2006 1:20:03 PM
i don't think so, i think every male that might've been at the party is suspect
3/24/2006 1:26:56 PM
What's with athletes and rape anyway? Didn't a football player for Navy get accused of raping a drunk girl recently?
3/24/2006 1:29:52 PM
too much testosterone?
3/24/2006 1:34:53 PM
They just said that the victims were able to rule out the African-Americans solely on their race on WRAL. Supposedly collecting the DNA samples are legal.
3/24/2006 6:04:44 PM
I see no problem with the investigation. Hope the nail the bastards that nailed the girls.[Edited on March 24, 2006 at 6:24 PM. Reason : girls, plural]
3/24/2006 6:24:26 PM
^^MORE LIKE "SOLELY ON THE FACT THAT IT WAS LACROSSE"
3/24/2006 6:25:43 PM
I meant to say the African-American's on the team
3/24/2006 6:30:46 PM
How many Blk guys play Lacrosse..tahts DEF. a white ass sport!
3/24/2006 10:38:38 PM

Not only is the search a little "unusual" but "dancer's" usually come with at least one large male over 6-4 260 to supervise, why was there no such guy in this instance. What "dancer" would go to a party full of testosterone college kids without protection?[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 12:27 PM. Reason : .]
3/25/2006 12:25:47 PM
^sometimes and sometime not. I have been to a couple a batchelor parties were the dancer came by herself because someone there either knew her or her "associates". Most likely that was not the case here because someone would have either been identified already or someone else would have gotten hurt.Since it was anticipated that there would be only be 5 men at the party, the dancers probably thought it would be safe enough for the both of them.
3/25/2006 12:35:20 PM
bigTHEW has been so patient here. This entire thread is people throwing out nonsense, and him having to post links and explain things to the contrary. One general note to the side of all this: Raping a dancer/stripper is stupid, stupid, stupid if you're not trying to get caught.[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 1:12 PM. Reason : sss]
3/25/2006 1:08:56 PM
so you're advocating raping "normal" girls?
3/25/2006 1:14:15 PM
^Of course not. I'm pointing out that many dancers may have been raped/assaulted before. I wouldn't be surprised if some dancers have a freaking checklist when it comes to reporting these things. There is the issue of privacy in this case. I understand that all the team members gave their DNA willingly--maybe not, but I didn't think the police could force you to give your DNA. I also understand that if your DNA exonerates you from being charged with a crime, they will destroy it. In other words, you can commit crimes later down the road and not have to worry about your DNA leading them to you.Another interesting point: DNA tests are expensive. A lot of DNA is taken and never tested because there's no money to get it done. In my opinion, the police must really believe they have a case if they're willing to pay two hundred bucks a pop on 20+ people to catch three men.I have a sick feeling that this rape actually took place, and that no one is going to be convicted. (Just a feeling...)[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 1:51 PM. Reason : sss]

So, there's been a candlelight vigil for this woman already. I've decided not to judge the vigil.(There's a chance that this alleged crime was not perpetrated by lacrosse players, by the way.)[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 11:16 PM. Reason : sss]
3/25/2006 11:05:48 PM
i bet if she wasnt a dancer you wouldnt have any problems with the vigil
3/25/2006 11:23:09 PM
welp they made it a racial issue :x almost in record time
3/25/2006 11:23:55 PM
^^And you would lose that bet...I don't have any problems with the vigil to begin with. I can envision a situation where a vigil would be a good thing.[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 11:35 PM. Reason : sss]
3/25/2006 11:34:34 PM
then wtf does this mean: "I've decided not to judge the vigil."
3/25/2006 11:36:21 PM
^I think I made it pretty clear: I've decided not to judge the vigil.I'd like to say, "this vigil is awesome because I know it must have been difficult for this woman to come forward, and I'm glad she has support."BUT YOU KNOW WHAT???SOME GUY LIKE YOU WOULD COME OUT WITH, "THEY HAVEN'T BEEN CONVICTED YET, YOU DUMB BITCH."WHY WOULD SOMEONE LIKE YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?BECAUSE YOU LIKE TO BE CONTRARY.[Edited on March 25, 2006 at 11:57 PM. 3/25/2006 11:55:31 PM
wellIT DOES FUCKING TAINT THE JURY POOL TO ACT LIKE THESE GUYS DID IT
3/26/2006 12:08:34 AM
^that's a decent reason, but that's still not why I'm NOT acting like they did it.(I'm NOT acting like "they" did it because I don't KNOW the truth; furthermore, I don't know who "they" is.)Reread the thread.[Edited on March 26, 2006 at 12:31 AM. Reason : sss]

there's a protest going on at 9ambring pots and pans
3/26/2006 12:36:21 AM
i wonder if there were vigils for kobe's little slut
3/26/2006 12:37:26 AM
3/26/2006 12:38:47 AM
don't they hold the name of rape victims?if people want to have vigils for anonymous rape victimsthere wouldn't be enough candles in the world
3/26/2006 12:40:40 AM
^You're a fucking idiot if you think I was using "they" in place of the "alleged victim".^^I totally agree, JonHGuth. However, I hesistate to support a vigil (on TWW) because I know I would be attacked for "siding with the 'alleged' victim." That's why I said that I would not judge the vigil.[Edited on March 26, 2006 at 12:56 AM. Reason : sss]

^Perhaps I responded wrongly (inappropiately sp?) to your post. Maybe you could explain this post:
3/26/2006 1:27:55 AM
Joe Alleva, Duke's Athletic Director only cancelled TWO games for the Mens Lacrosse team..umm, if your WHOLE team had to have DNA samples taken from them, all 40 guys were at the party and claim to have been in different rooms with the minority strippers..and yet none of them seem to know what really happened. THe entire season should be cancelled, I dont care that 99% of the guys were white and the two female dancers were minority..rape is rape...and the AD of Duke should develop a Spine and send a message that until someone on the Duke Lacroose Team decide's to step forward or the result of the DNA samples are acquired..than he should cancel their ENTIRE season..PERIOD! I am all about having a good time, but when one's good time comes at the expense of forcing someone to do something that any normal person knows is wrong, well I have no problem with sending the guilty Duke Lacrosse Players to a barb-wired, high level security facility where they can ponder their assanine decision.
3/26/2006 2:24:52 PM
^I know. It almost seems like University officials WANT the boys to remain silent.
3/26/2006 2:44:55 PM
why cancel the season on allegation of rape?and bridgetmy post was saying that the authorities do not release the name of rape victims generallyso they are marching for an anonymous rape victimwhich they could do every night
3/26/2006 2:51:29 PM
B/C one of the 40 players who were at that party saw or heard something, so if they all are taking a vow of silence a message should be sent to them untli the guilty party comes forward!
3/26/2006 11:18:18 PM
and you're so sure there is a "guilty party" on the teami must have missed the trial
3/26/2006 11:19:43 PM
if any of you all are surprised that this has turned into a race issue, well, welcome to durham. thats just how we do.
3/26/2006 11:38:39 PM
they just had a live press conference on NBC17, supposedly member of the team admitted to their shame that they have brought to the university but nothing in the line of admission of the guilt to the events that have occured. Their season has been cancelled until, further evidence is revealed.

story on Bill O'Reilly tonight with Geraldo reporting
3/28/2006 8:01:19 PM
The NAACP, Bill O'Reilly, this is turning into a lot of fun. (yes, that's sarcasm)I guess it was only a matter of time before the underlying issue of this incident came to pass, a rich mainly-white school in the middle of a poor mainly-black city and the strains between the two.Do State lacrosse get a win out of this?
3/29/2006 8:42:52 AM
Why is this a race issue? THey're calling it a hate crime on certain stations. I think that's a little on the ridiculous side. Why would a bunch of racists get a black stripper in the first place? That doesn't make sense. And isn't all rape essentially a hate crime? So it's less bad if you rape someone of hte same race?
3/29/2006 8:52:53 AM
NBC17 news reported last night that racial slurs were used against the victims as well as, two women who were not even involved in any of the incidents that occurred; walking past the fraternity house that hosted the party also received racial slurs. A neighbor claims to have heard them too. There were also two 911 calls from other people uninvolved that witness the affects of the abuse but never saw the incidents happen.[Edited on March 29, 2006 at 9:10 AM. Reason : .]
3/29/2006 9:08:48 AM
do the players that were not even at the party now lose their scholarships?
3/29/2006 9:58:52 AM
From what has been reported the only thing that has happened has been the canceling of the season until the DNA results are posted. So I doubt any one is going to loose anything except the ability to play games until further evidence is received.
3/29/2006 10:20:11 AM
schools give scholarships for lacrosse?
