I saw that recently, and after having seen a few old movies which put modern movies to shame I was expecting quite alot from the #2 movie of all time.but it was no better than a #102 movie of all time. Although it was a good movie and I finally found out where all those saying come from like "heres looking at you kid" and there are many of them in this movie, i though it was just an average old movie, nothing special.im thinking it just got overly popular because it came out right after the war and it was fresh on peoples mind, what boggles my mind is how it was voted #2 50 years later.

Reason : .]but that doesnt matter, the subject in the movie was the war, as if it was on the tail end of itand one question when did the war for europe start?[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 5:32 PM. I believe Gone With The Wind was the first movie shot in color (at least presented in color)

The fact that the first talkie was only 12 years earlier kinda puts it into perspective to me...just the sheer change in production value/scale in such a relatively short time is pretty amazing. I find with a lot of classic books and movies you watch they seem kinda cliche or obvious, but a lot the time its because they started trends or have been borrowed from or given homage in subsequent literature/film so much that its hard to realize thats where a lot of things originated.^^I thought the Wizard of Oz was the first feature length one, although I believe they were actually shot around the same time using the same camera (there only being so many color film cameras). There were several full color short films for a while.[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 5:45 PM. Reason : ...]

The book is better.I've never been able to stay awake during the movie.

Hattie McDaniel (Mammy) was the first african american to win an academy award, and it took some 20 years after that for another to get one."Here's looking at you kid" is from Casablanca. Shouldn't we be talking about the Civil War since this is Gone with the Wind?Casablanca >>> Gone with the Wind]

I'm so fucking confused by this thread.1. I'm not sure if it's a joke or not. See pointss 2 and 3.2. If it's a joke, meh. The End.3. If it's not, see questions 4, 5, 6.4. What does WWII have to do with the Civil War, other than the fact that they're both...um...wars?5. When does someone say "Here's looking at you, kid" in Gone with the Wind?6. Is this thread actually about Casablanca?

3/22/2006 8:02:05 PM
I don't think your point is valid at all. Then again, I didn't confuse a color Civil War epic with a black and white movie about a nightclub.

Nothin' says lovin' like an epic that loses its narrative verve right when it should be peaking. Great choice!^^^ I'm hoping for the Liz Taylor "Cleopatra".[Edited on March 23, 2006 at 1:28 AM. Reason : d]
