start penalties.http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2380129Sounds good to me. I personally think holding is called way too often.

i like the WR idea, but what is "telling a D lineman not to hit a QB below the knee" going to actually solve in the long run.
3/22/2006 4:52:33 PM
i don't know. i'm not sure they can do anything to improve on shit like blatantly blowing a call after REVIEWING THE PLAY in the booth (polamalu interception). if they can't make calls that obvious, there's no hope for the quality of officiating to improve.
3/22/2006 4:52:38 PM
I am fine with the holding and false start shit, but damn if they keep up the QB protection shit they might as well just put those fuckers in a big bubble and roll them on the field
3/22/2006 5:03:00 PM
too bad they arent reviewing the chopblock rules.....dirty playing teams like atl and denver always injure great D linemen with cheap tactics like that and every year the league looks the other way....the panthers had Peppers, wallace and rucker all miss games and never back to 100% after the falcons game this past year due to that cheap shit....fuck some chop blocking
3/22/2006 5:06:02 PM
too bad they dont get some younger refsI just dont see Ed Hochuli being able to sprint downfield with Steve Smith and Dante Hall
3/22/2006 5:07:16 PM
i don't think anyone can, if they could theyd be playing
3/22/2006 5:48:54 PM
how about full-time year round refs?guys who do nothing but football...who study game tapes during the offseason to see the calls that were made and missed...who have nothing to do for 7 months out of the year other than improve how they call the game...
3/22/2006 7:10:56 PM
3/22/2006 7:13:00 PM
Well, Ed looks like he could tackle someone who tries to sprint past him.

at first i thought this meant that false starts were reviewable
3/23/2006 5:39:29 PM
according to John Madden, there's some kind of holding on every play
3/23/2006 5:43:22 PM
If you ain't cheating you ain't trying.

allowing linemen to get away with holding is going to take a lot out of the Defensive End position. be ready for michael vick to run all over the Panthers next season if they go through with that bullshit.
3/23/2006 8:13:22 PM
I hope what this means, and this is probably a stretch, is that, after a play where holding is called, the refs will go back and look at it--without a challenge being called--to make sure there was a hold.
3/24/2006 8:58:29 AM
"The new rule 'prohibits a rushing defender from forcibly hitting a passer who has one or both feet on the ground.'"Saw this rule on an article on the Chargers' home page. This makes it sound like you can't sack a QB from the blindside if he's just sitting back in the pocket. If this is true, then it's ridiculous.
3/30/2006 5:19:38 PM
So we can't hit a QB above the shoulders or below the knee...they make QB seem like pussies and shoud be immune from being touched...bullshit III&FH
3/31/2006 12:37:30 PM
but if the qb throws a jump passhe's fair game
3/31/2006 12:41:57 PM
also the NFL is cracking down on touchdown celebrations for whatever reasonapparently anything sitting or lying down is now grounds for a penalty?so like somebody said on the radio the other day, when Chad Johnson "proposed" to the cheerleader...if he had done it standing up it would've been ok, but one knee on the ground is a penaltyalso you cant use any props now apparently, whether it be cellphones, pile-ons, etc

The QB slide rule needs to be taken out.You run, you pay.If you wanna run then get near a sideline like everybody else.
