Do you think we have enough money to do something with the East side of the stadium? I would like to see atleast another tier or some kind of towers.I know this is old but I'd rather talk about this than Herb's future...
3/22/2006 9:49:22 AM
Gotta have a great team first...Money ain't free.
3/22/2006 9:54:23 AM
I believe an upper deck on the North End Zone (on top of current construction) would come before any changes to the East Side.I don't want The Carter to look like Bryd Stadium so I would hope for towers and not stands.I think before any of that, the next thing in the master plan is an indoor practice facility.
3/22/2006 10:01:07 AM
if you build it, they will come
3/22/2006 10:05:53 AM
not really, look at UNC. They're looking to add 9,000 more seats and they can't sell the ones they have.
3/22/2006 10:19:57 AM
UNC sells out every game and fills their stadium to the top!Just 10-20k of them are dressed in aluminum.
3/22/2006 10:52:08 AM
^^that is just so they will keep their capacity above oursand the first thing they need to do to the east side is update the concourse so it matches the west side.[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 10:55 AM. Reason : ]

I have heard rumors that a matching tower to the vaughn towers will be added someday....but it will be more club seats than boxes, with half of it possibly being open air (less expensive) i think this will come after upper deck for the NEZ, and an indoor practice facility, and possible cornering in the upper decks towards the murph...so probably on the 15 year plan
3/22/2006 11:39:01 AM
15 year plan? hahahaha . . . maybe the 50 year planwe will have the stadium looking very respectable after the NEZ is done and we shouldn't do any more expansion for like 5 years min. And that is assuming that the team suddenly becomes consistently good so that demand can grow. Maybe then I would consider an upper deck in the NEZ as a good thing. The only thing in the near future that should be planned right now is possibly an indoor practice facility. But beyond that it all depends on how the team does these next few years.

^search the old threadsAll I know is we better not have any more seasons starting out 2-4 with embarassing losses to Wake, UNC, and Clemson or seasons ending with 5 game losing streaks. If we do, everyone will be wondering why our stadium looks like Kenan (all silvery and shit).

so how long until they finally whine enough to get their own centennial campus too?
3/22/2006 2:42:14 PM
They're already planning it. "UNC North Campus"

Unless they go around to local bars, bop people on the back of the head and drag them to Kenan Stadium on Saturday, they'll just claim the prize for the biggest stadium/Satellite look-alike contest. They could put those new aluminum bleachers to work and double them up as Solar cells in order to power the Exit gates at half-time.

There are an awful lot of starving liberals without jobs in Chapel Hill and Carrboro that could use a good place to sleep....
3/22/2006 3:06:23 PM
70,000 seats at Kenan would be like a sterile/ugly bachelor buying a dozen wedding rings.

Here is the national attendance average from last season. Oh yeah, take in consideration that UNC likes to guestimate their attendance since its "more accurate" http://www.ncaa.org/stats/football/attendance/2005/2005_football_attendance.pdf
3/22/2006 3:17:40 PM
I know they have owned us in sports for the past few years.....but nothing is better than making fun of the holes ^And the difference....we sucked last year, and played games against MTSU and Southern Miss to kill the attendance.....while they were actually having a decent season, and played Wisconson and Utah at home OOC.That reflects poorly on our OOC schedule, but even worse on their attendance. 70,000 seats in Kenan is like an bad hooker getting a facelift. It may look nice on the outside BUT the performance stinks, no one fills it up, and everyone's gone before its half over....
3/22/2006 3:20:32 PM
I dont know too much about our attendance before the Rivers era, but how did we compare to UNC before 2000?That would be a more acurate depiction of who has better fans.
3/22/2006 3:24:25 PM
I don't remember # of sellouts, but the stadium was almost always full when I went in 1998 and 1999From the numbers the NCAA gives, it seems a little fishy to me whether UNC counts tickets sold or tickets counted at the gates. Conveniently all of their totals and averages seem to be rounded up to whole thousands.... Something stinks about those numbers....[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 3:32 PM. Reason : ]
3/22/2006 3:25:31 PM
That sounds about right with our fan base. All I know is that I think we're gonna suck balls next year, but I'm ready for some football. I'll be at EVERY game.

3/22/2006 3:45:30 PM
i'm pretty sure State counts the tickets that were recieved at the gate. yeah the MTSU game really killed our average. wasn't the attendance for that game like 37k or something. pretty much all of the other games had they not been sellouts (57k+) then they were at least over 50k. I think the UMD game was 52k+. the student section sucked since everyone was on Thanksgiving break, but the rest of the stands were full.
3/22/2006 3:50:02 PM
3/22/2006 3:51:02 PM
I'd be absolutely shocked if they didn't go by tickets sold. That is why the attendance EVERY GAME was 56,800 either last year or 2 years ago.. (i think it was 2...).. there is NO way every person showed up every game..V we do.. i'm nearly 100% certain..[Edited on March 22, 2006 at 3:53 PM. Reason : f]

^why is that a wowhave you ever watched a canes game on TV, that shit is always emptyI went to school there for two years, and the only two games that were remotely full was the Florida and FSU games in 03/04they only have 6k undergrads, and the locals suck ass, and are hungover on southbeachfor such a great program it is hard to see how they consistently recruit so well when the stadium is half emptyi believe it was the Wake Forest game last year, where there was not 1 fan in the entire upper deck of the orange bowl, it was fucking sad
3/22/2006 5:10:21 PM
well i knew that there attendance sucked, but i figured that a few of the games each year help them clear 50k. i guess if we looked at the 2004 attendance it might look different since they played both FSU and VT that year.
3/22/2006 5:14:04 PM
kenan stadium sucks, when I was in high school our team played the state championship there and you have to park like 8 miles away then like hike through the woods and shit to get to it, its ridiculous.
3/22/2006 5:32:09 PM
