http://www.ncsu.edu/biotechnology/?p=courses&course=1I know Dr. Carson, but not by taking this class. She seems pretty cool...I worked in the biotech lab some last summer and met the staff there.

Dr. Carson is a great professor, really nice and always willing to help. She lectures with Powerpoint which can get kind of drawn out in the longer class time, but the material is fairly interesting and the class uses the CPS clicker things to answer questions throughout the lectures. As far as the lab goes, the reason it is 5 hours is because of incubations, etc. that need to be done during the lab that can last up to an hour, and sometimes there are 2 or 3 of them in one lab session. So during these times there is nothing to do...you can do homework, go get something to eat, or what have you, as long as you're back in time. So it's really not that bad and you get used to being there that long. Some of the labs will only take 3 hours to do, some will take all 5. It really depends on how fast you work without screwing up. The class was easy to get an A in, but I had already learned a lot of the material beforehand from an internship
