Someone picked up my keys at the IM football field and they have not been turned in within a week. I called one place and they said it would cost about $160 to make a new one on the spot. I know this is probably typical but does anyone have a reference that may be a lil cheaper?Thanks

get a key blank for your car, stick it in the lock, turn and slide it in and out a little, then pull it out and look at the marks on the top, file down the deepest marks and repeat until it works. as you get each cut down to the right level, the cylinder will turn, and that pin will not leave a mark any more. total cost-$1.50 for a key, 15 min of dicking around with it. a lot of plaecs are reluctant to sell uncut blanks due to this though, good luck.

Easiest way is to call the dealer with your VIN. You may need proof of ownership before they'll actually cut one for you.Another way...Marshall Locksmiths over on Poole Road just outside the beltline can do it for you. They made my last key for my Integra after I lost my keys. Cost? Seven dolla. It's that cheap if you go to them. Getting them to come to you and do it on the spot is what costs so damn much.You'll need to supply them with the VIN, but they might not be able to cross-ref it if the car is too old. Mine is an '87 (too old), and I had to take them a lock cylinder and have them look up the code stamped into the side. If I had known how to decipher the stamped code, I could have written it down and just carried that to them.

yeah, screw all that ^^ noise. just take your vin to the dealer. unless you have a chipped key, it'll cost ~10 bucks. i've done it several times for different vehicles. you may need some sort of proof of ownership as has been said. i've never needed anything though.

Well, this actually happened to me over spring break and I still havnt solved the problem:Lost the keys to my '59 Morgan. Closest dealer is in New York, and I doubt they would have a copy of the VIN, also I have ordered a blank but the blank is a different pattern and won't fit in the key whole (damn). They havn't made this car in over 45 years...so should I but a new $150 dollar lock and key for it and have to take apart my dashboard?BTW the car doesnt have door locks, just need the key for the ignition.

^^Geezus fuckin Christmas...Go and get a generic ignition switch for offroad equipment. The kind that has four screw terminals on the back. You can make that work. For BEANS.
