Yeah, once everything that could be overly emotionalized passed over (no pun), the media stopped worrying so much. The last thing we heard about the effort was the Chocolate City shit. The best way to make a difference is to contact a university down there... Univ of New Orleans (my old school) and Tulane University have toll-free numbers:UNO: 1(888) 514-4275Tulane: 1(888) 265-7576also, Xavier University, which was right near the Palmetto St. drainage drainage canal. I went to middle school about five blocks away from there, and the canal would threaten to overflow under normal rain if it lasted long enough. Lots of construction was going on over there, and their campus looked pretty bad from what I saw. Here's their contact #: 504-486-7411Sav-A-Center, New Orleans & Mississippi's A&P subsidiary, JUST reopened the last two stores that they plan to re-open (actually I'm not even sure of this, their projected date was Mar 16). Just because they are open doesn't mean they are fully staffed. If you want more info: 1-866-712-9522. I know that's the associates line, and I actually used their form mailer to get all the info to them. I THINK there's a way to speak to an operator though.Bishop Perry Middle School, a school always looking for volunteers:http://www.bpms.org/History/history%20index.htm - learn a bit about the schoolhttp://www.bpms.org/Faculty/faculty_and_staff.htm - contact ANY of them for info about helping out, or call the school: 504 309-6242as TWW's residing New Orlenian, feel free to contact me if you want to know more places that need help, etc. These are just a few places, but I didn't want to be exhaustive.[Edited on March 21, 2006 at 6:51 PM.
