It makes such a huge difference in his size, strength, etc.He is not a true freshman, yet the media talks about him like he is the new kid on the block and the most talented freshman ever.Isnt this a big deal? Didnt they ever see Necessary Roughness?
3/19/2006 3:02:26 PM
how old is he?
3/19/2006 3:03:38 PM
not a big deal[Edited on March 19, 2006 at 3:04 PM. Reason : chris weinke of basketball]
3/19/2006 3:03:52 PM
20and this was covered in another threadthere are plenty of 20 year old freshmen aroundstop your whining
3/19/2006 3:04:17 PM
he just got mentioned 5 times in 15 seconds.....
3/19/2006 3:04:48 PM
I realize it's fun to harp on ... but he really isn't the only one to be 20 and a freshman :x it's not a new thing . relax
3/19/2006 3:06:42 PM
its not like he's out there dominating people because he's 20most of his competition is older than he ishe's just good
3/19/2006 3:06:56 PM
they mention it all the timeand it doesnt even matter
3/19/2006 3:07:44 PM
they cant go thirty seconds without saying his name
3/19/2006 3:08:17 PM
I thought he was 21...but anyway. It is a big deal, especially in college basketball, where 20-21 year olds are leaps and bounds more physically imposing than just turned 18 year olds.Arvidas Sabonis didnt win Rookie of the year in the NBA because of thisIchiro Suzuki didnt win Rookie of the year because of this.Hansbrough should either.
3/19/2006 3:08:53 PM
I would say it matters a little bit. I bet he changed a lot physically over that year from 19 to 20.He's not half as dominant without 25 lbs of muscle.
3/19/2006 3:09:29 PM
3/19/2006 3:11:13 PM
^^^ wtf? Ichiro DEFINITELY won ROY in 2001...and who cares?[Edited on March 19, 2006 at 3:11 PM. Reason : ernie beat me..]
3/19/2006 3:11:19 PM
it's a non issue
3/19/2006 3:27:02 PM
so because he's good its an issue? eric boateng and sean dockery are/were 20 year old freshman, but no one ever mentions that
3/19/2006 3:38:16 PM
Well Dock has an excuse. He is a god damn moron who could hardly read..V doubt that his since Dad is succesful. Dockery literally got like 650 on his SATs the first time. He is downright stupid..[Edited on March 19, 2006 at 3:40 PM. Reason : f]
3/19/2006 3:39:19 PM
i suspect the same could be said for hansborough
3/19/2006 3:39:51 PM
he has one of those looks where i just wanna punch them in the faceits not just because of the carolina thing either
3/19/2006 4:16:10 PM
some duke fresman (poccius I think?) is 21.It isn't that uncommon, a lot of people are held back in elementary, go to junior college, or both.Look on the bright side, he might be recieving a lot of attention as a good fresman, but he likely won't improve as much between this year and next as most players.
3/19/2006 4:33:47 PM
3/19/2006 4:42:37 PM
WHY DOES Hansbrough's MOM GET MENTIONED IN EVERY OTHER THREAD
3/19/2006 4:43:05 PM
3/19/2006 4:52:15 PM
panthro is a fucking moron
3/19/2006 5:16:20 PM
^^ummmm no. if a player transfers from a JUCO after his 1st year he then has 3 years of elgibility left making him a sophmore. if a player transfers after second year he has 2 left making him a junior.
3/19/2006 8:39:53 PM
dicky v mentions his age every time he talks about him when others say that he is a freshman
3/19/2006 8:49:34 PM
even i was a sophomore when i was 20, and i had 2 freshman years
3/19/2006 8:54:35 PM
3/19/2006 9:01:27 PM
He doesn't dominate because of his age, he dominates because he enjoys the immunity from foul calling and the free benefit of the doubt free shot calling that comes with being a UNC center.
3/20/2006 12:55:39 PM
new arguement... thankyou for bringing that to our attention
3/20/2006 12:57:26 PM
pretty much every unc game i saw this season the commentators talked abou the "19 yr old Freshman"
3/20/2006 1:05:25 PM
I believe Hansbrough came straight out of high school though.Anyone know anything about UNC's 21 year old freshman Copeland?? He went there straight out of high school as well....Makes me wonder if dribbling and shooting are on UNC's application process....(and to answer Panthro's original question.... Why would the media [UNC hype-machine] ever mention Hansbrough's [UNC hypee] real age? They have no reason to cast *gasp* doubt on a UNC player's level of preparedness against competition. The point to this thread is that Hansbrough really shouldn't be compared to the freshmen in the ACC. The junior-freshman needs to be compared to players his age, not class.)[Edited on March 20, 2006 at 1:16 PM. Reason : ]
