Ok, someone enlighten me on the intentional foul rules.I heard that it works something like a technical (ie they get the ball back) but I wasn't sure. Also, I wondered what makes it intentional...I see teams foul at the end of games all the time--when is it intentional and when is it just a foul?

intentional is a foul where no play is made for the ball. at the end of games, the player is ostensibly going for the ball when they foul, so its legal

^^ its two shots and the ball (like a technical) but the person committing the flagrant/intentional just gets charged with a normal personal foul.you'll see it called on fast breaks sometimes, and its supposed to be always called when a jersey is pulled so the defender can catch up.

also, one of the things that pisses me off about international basketball is that the following is not an intentional foul

if you want to foul off the ball (if time is very low and you want to foul quickly) but dont want to get the intentional, you have to make it look like you accidentally bump into the player...you cant just wrap your arms around him like you could if he had the ball
