College basketball is big in NC.But I suspect California to be close. They are just such a huge state and have always had strong sports powerhouses.I saw a graph in SI one time about NCAA team championships in all sports, and California had more than all other states combined.

Several states are just as prevalent: California and Pennsylvania have 4 teams in and 8 other states have 3 teams in this year.Ohio: tOSU, MiamiOH, Kent State, Cinn., Xavier, Bowling Green, Wright State, ToledoCalifornia: UCLA, Cal, Stanford, USC, UCSB, Fresno St, Pacific, SDSU, Long Beach StPennsylvania: Pitt, Penn, PennSt, Bucknell, Temple, Drexel, St. JosephNew York: Syracuse, Princeton, St. John, Hofstra, Manhattan, Iona, Albany, Canisius, ColgateIts simply that you know the smaller schools in NC so you remember when they get in (and what state they are in).
