Unbelievable. They couldn't wait till the end of the season to say shit like this? Man, if I were Herb, I would leave. Fuck this. Support the damn team no matter what. In the offseason, talk your shit. If there is still ball to be played, then shut the fuck up.

Am I justified for hating you because you wrote a few pieces for the Technician? Or am I wrong here?
3/17/2006 9:14:03 AM
wow.he should leave. actually he should get a couple technicals tonight and get himself ejected, then leave. as a former NCSU student, i am ashamed to be associated with such a bunch of fucking pussies. wow.
3/17/2006 9:14:10 AM
3/17/2006 9:15:04 AM
^top, wholeheartedly agree, this is what has pissed me off about the recent upraising of hate toward our teams, if we end up winning and getting to past what some expected us to do, there will be so many turncoats. If we loose tonight, it will be people who feel they were justified in thier actions. Either way, none of this puts a positive light on our fan base, and it doesn't help our team either.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:16 AM. Reason : .]

Yeah...seems like we've taken things a little far and have really made an ass of ourselves and our university. I don't think that we understand that doing things like this makes us really unattractive to potential coaches.
3/17/2006 9:16:58 AM
just repeating a thought and applying it to the bullshit this kid wrote.
3/17/2006 9:17:36 AM
i agree with legi'm not ashamed of our basketball program. I am ashamed of our school and student body.
3/17/2006 9:18:00 AM
I do too, it is quite sickening what has happened not just over the past couple of weeks, but its been the same song and dance for the past couple of years. I really don't any good coming out of whatever happens tonight, win or loose.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:20 AM. Reason : .]

every year NCSU fans watch the duke carolina games get all this hype, and watch it be broadcast on like 12 channels at once, and see all the press on the gameand they want SO BADLY to be included in that, thats what the "rivalry" is -- its simply fucking jealousy, they know UNC and Duke dont care about us, and they think that if they can win those games, they will be included. they try so hard to be acknowledged by their friends at Duke and UNC, and their friends just laugh at them. its not herbs fault guys.

Don't get too cocky now! I just remember some chick making a thread wanting you dead on here a while back...** An interesting point gunzz made in another thread. I wonder what kind of impact not having Herb around will have on recruiting. Will players decommit? Will players transfer? I'm nearly certain Chris Wright would rescind his oral if Herb was fired/resigned. That is something to think about...[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:27 AM. Reason : f]

^JacklegI've rarely seen something so off-topic.The intensity of our rivalry with Carolina has very little to do with the Fire Herb movement. I'm a herb supporter, but there's a historic rivalry there that still remains, and it hurts to lose to our rivals more than others, so that is a small part of what makes this season sting. But that's no where near the whole of the reason people want Herb gone.Back on the original subject: This article is shameful at best, and as an alumnus it embarrasses me to see that in the Technician for so many reasons. The guy talks like a 6th grader, calls for his coaches head mid-season, and then they publish it.And all this over a four game losing streak? Four games.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:29 AM. 20+ win season. 5 straight NCAA appearances (only 15 other teams in the country have a 5 game or more consecutive streak currently).
3/17/2006 9:29:39 AM
3/17/2006 9:29:49 AM
Generally any coaching change regaurdless of the situation they will be the thought of decommitting from the university. Most of time unless it some a Coach K caliber coach, the incoming coach has to do a lot of convincing to the recuit to keep their committments. How this will be in our situation, if Herb leaves, I don't know. Either way I don't see much good coming out of it.
3/17/2006 9:30:06 AM
if herb leaves, forget about going to the NCAA for 5 or so years
3/17/2006 9:30:54 AM
at least.
3/17/2006 9:31:03 AM
slackerb--its not off topic, read the letter. this person is whining cause state keeps losing to UNC and Duke. i guarantee you that 99% of these "fire herb" assholes wouldnt say a word if we had beat UNC and Duke this year. its obvious.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:32 AM. Reason : ...]

We'll recruit well no matter what. The RBC has worked wonders for us. It's a matter if we get a better coach than Herb or not. We can definetely do better, but we can definetely do worse
3/17/2006 9:32:32 AM
3/17/2006 9:33:50 AM
I would say that necessarily. A lot depends on WHO we would be able to bring in. Next year, with Herbs players, will be absolutely miserable if we switch coaches. I don't know how you can say 'we won't make it in 5 years' without knowing a possible replacement.I do think it would have a DISASTROUS effect on recruiting and our current team makeup to start. 2-3 years of second group ACC finishes isn't out of the realm of possibilities given how are team is constructed. As an aside.. has anyone noticed ALL of our post counts going up DRAMATICALLY since the Herb debates fired up again!
3/17/2006 9:34:13 AM
Not only is it on topic, the damn article references it
3/17/2006 9:35:55 AM
3/17/2006 9:38:19 AM
oh really and why is thathow many 3 and 4 star players or MD all americans did we have when Les was was here?
3/17/2006 9:39:27 AM
It's true that most herb haters main point is losing constantly to rivals, and I think that's a valid gripe. What I thought was wayyyy off topic was the stupid "debate" about how pitiful our rivalry is and that it's just jealousy over Duke/CArolina...blah blah. That's a whole nother thread thats been done a bazillion times and a bad defense of Herb.Anyways, Pro or Anti Herb, we all should agree not to publish shit like this before the season is over. Lame lame lame.
3/17/2006 9:40:07 AM
^^I see.If you're using it in comparison to Les Robinson, okay. If you're using it in a "keep Herb becuase he's finally recruiting well and we're gonna get better", which is what I took it to mean, then you're completely off baseI also find it entertaining that people compare NC State today with the Les Robinson years. Call me crazy, but that shouldn't be our measuring stick. Les Robinson was quite possibily the worst coach in ACC history (definetely of the Big 4).... He was only brought in to run a clean program. The Les Robinson years are so far behind us and Herb has had plenty of time to reach success. He's had some, but has hit a brick wall these past few years [Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:44 AM. 3/17/2006 9:40:36 AM
and againyou dont explain your comment^ what the fuck?Call me crazy but herb didnt have the luxury of taking over what we would consider our 'best' program.he took over a piece of shit program in the middle of the height of its major rivals success. You can 'compare' all you want, but its an empty comparison.V yes you

^^^ And the irony of that UMD situation was that Maryland fans were calling for Gary's head though that time up until he finally had that run to win the championship. I remember how they would boo him and call for his head. However, he was able to find a way to win out and keep his job.[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:50 AM. Reason : .]

Not for nothing but what good is a Top 5 ranking if you barely make the tourney? <<<<During his final season at Clemson (1996-97), the Tigers began the year ranked No. 5 in the preseason AP poll — the highest preseason ranking in school history. Despite facing a schedule ranked third toughest in the nation by the RPI and playing with an injured point guard in Terrell McIntyre for the majority of the season, Barnes’ team still posted an 18-14 mark en route to another berth in the “Big Dance.”>>>>
3/17/2006 9:53:17 AM
ive said it once, ill say it again.herb is a classy guy and doesnt deserve this shit. ive been critical, but to try to drive him out before the tournament even starts is unbelievable. Maybe if there were character issues this would be justified, but Herb has stayed classy through it all. There are plenty of schools who would love to have him right now. For his own good, I hope he quits, gives a press conference where he tells nc state to kiss his ass, and goes to coach at another school where he wins multiple conference championships w/o the continued pressure from being in the shadow of duke and unc and having to put up with fans who have been wanting him to fail for the past 10 years b/c hes not an overrated coach from the past.
3/17/2006 9:53:53 AM
^^ You're right, and to an extent, I agree. They were, I believe, first (maybe 2nd?) in the league until McIntyre went down.... and were playing outstanding. I realize they finished up rather weak, but that's mostly becuase they lost thier star. That year Duke, Wake Forest, Maryland, UNC, and Clemson were all ranked in the top 3 in the nation. I'm not saying Barnes walks on water like most of you believe I think, but it doesn't take forever...no matter where you started. UW-Mil was horrible. Pearl had them in the sweet 16 in what... 3 years?[Edited on March 17, 2006 at 9:57 AM. Reason : ]
3/17/2006 9:55:55 AM
Yeah im not arguing Barnes vs Sendek. I would find it difficult to argue to not take Barnes right now if he wanted the job.How deep did Barnes take Clemson in the tourney and how many times?
3/17/2006 9:56:32 AM
From memory, I think he was there.... 4 years? Might have taken them to the NCAA's twice... and I dont think he ever got out of the first round(Again, going from memory, probably way off)
3/17/2006 9:58:23 AM
hahah its so hard to stay out of this, since i rarely use sports talk and havent seen this same thread every day for the past 4 years.5th tournament in a row, i think 5 points difference (or a couple of calls) would have made us be in 3/4 sweet 16s... and people are completely forgetting that WE HAVENT EVEN PLAYED THIS TOURNAMENT YET. but i guess thats why this argument is so pointless
3/17/2006 10:00:20 AM
3/17/2006 10:00:46 AM
Yeah I am not arguing Sendek is the best thing since sliced bread. I am just saying he is consistently improving the program. There may be better coaches out there for the job but im in no hurry to try to go find them.
3/17/2006 10:01:09 AM
I know it's overly frustrating and I really would like Herb to stay. However, if he does leave and we play a team he coaches I hope we beat them by 50... no point holding it against the KIDS in the program...
