I cannot appologize enough for starting another thread with the word "Herb" in it, but actually want to know what people make of this. Interesting fact #3 for us has a source, but no link. So I'm stuck showing you guys the deadspin link. On the plus side, you get to read about Cal's uber psych-out if you'd not heard about it before...http://www.deadspin.com/sports/ncaa-tournament-previews/ncaa-pants-party-california-vs-nc-state-159995.php

i actually saw this somewhere else, it went on to say that many players said that it wasn't so much herb himself, they just didnt' think that they would like the offense.[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 11:12 AM. Reason : .]
3/15/2006 11:12:02 AM
36% = 100%
3/15/2006 11:12:10 AM
there is a thread on here about that poll
3/15/2006 11:12:37 AM
The poll was some bull shit SI did about polling players about their likes and dislike in their respective conferences. The reason given was that nobody likes our offensive system. Quote:"It's hard to play against, but I hate his offense."...."That backdoor stuff just isn't for me."

3/15/2006 11:14:59 AM
Who the hell cares about players that are already dedicated to other teams.
3/15/2006 11:15:02 AM
^ good point
3/15/2006 11:16:37 AM
Maybe there's a reason they're playing somewhere else? As opposed to anywhere with this system?
3/15/2006 11:19:39 AM
Yeah because I am sure they looked at State and this offense first before making a decision on any other program.[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 11:25 AM. Reason : .]
3/15/2006 11:20:45 AM
someone name some big acc players who herb went after and losti can't think of anythis thread sucks
3/15/2006 11:21:54 AM
Maybe. Maybe(probably) not. I just thought it was a semi-interesting bit. Seemed better than 99% of the other Herb-related threads, too.Of course, there already was a thread about it as it turned out. So I'll take the hit for that.
3/15/2006 11:23:22 AM
so anyone got a link to this poll?
3/15/2006 11:25:49 AM
I am sure there isn't one since more than like it doesn't exist. I could post on my blog that 89% of ACC players hate Coach K and I am sure I could turn some head too.
3/15/2006 11:28:09 AM
This was a stupid SI poll in their latests issue. Only non-NC State players were polled and it was only a 36% consensus.
3/15/2006 11:28:41 AM
36% is a lot when you've got 12 different optionsthat's over a third of the leagueit still doesn't mean shit though
3/15/2006 11:30:30 AM
3/15/2006 11:32:36 AM
it means they can't understand our offense so they know they couldn't play for herb
3/15/2006 11:32:57 AM
chris paul as well
3/15/2006 11:33:20 AM
ahaeric williams blows
3/15/2006 11:33:35 AM
^^haha that's a joke right?skip was at like every west forsyth game practically. chris grew up in winston and knew all along he wanted to go to wake.he could have gone anywhere in the country
3/15/2006 11:34:45 AM
Eric Williams almost single-handedly knocked us out of the ACC tournament.
3/15/2006 11:35:16 AM
3/15/2006 11:35:19 AM
Eric Williams is the best center in the the ACC. Skip just never took advantage of that until, oh, about 3 games ago.

3/15/2006 11:38:32 AM
OH SHITwe almost got pittsnogledi did not know that
3/15/2006 11:40:01 AM
Im pretty sure that at one point we were in the runnings for Eric Williams. He committed to Wake very early.
3/15/2006 11:40:41 AM
point being we never had a shot at himso stop making shit up
3/15/2006 11:41:12 AM
Im not making shit up. Ill find it somewhere. I KNOW we tried for him but he was unsure of Herb's stability. He went to Wake Forest-Rolesville. Dammit. Someone else has to remember that.
3/15/2006 11:44:00 AM
We didn't have a shot at Williams because he and Gray kept hearing that Herb was going to get fired.Keep in mind that most high-level basketball recruiting is two years ahead of schedule, which means these current seniors were being recruited during Herb's one losing season.
3/15/2006 11:46:15 AM
3/15/2006 11:46:58 AM
wellif eric williams is the biggest acc recruit herb has missed out oni can live with that
3/15/2006 11:48:11 AM
^Yeah.I mean, I would've liked to have a center earlier--an actual post player would've been a nice addition to Hodge, Grundy, Melvin, etc.But I'm not a fan of Eric's attitude. Maybe it's just something that happens at Wake, but that entire team just rubs me the wrong way.
3/15/2006 11:52:17 AM
aaron holmes
3/15/2006 12:05:27 PM
Either way all of this complaining won't help us getting future recruits, so I agree that someone needs to come out and make a stand on where Herb's position is with this program soon.
3/15/2006 12:10:15 PM
36%??That means what 64% of players in the ACC wouldn't mind playing for the Pack? That sounds like a compliment to me. I mean if every player said they wouldn't mind playing for their own coach, we would have something like 8.3 % wouldn't mind and 91% wouldn't.......To say that only 36% don't like our coach / our offense, seems like a pretty good stat
3/15/2006 12:14:00 PM
No, it just says that when asked to name the one coach you'd least like to play for, they picked Herb. The exact opposite (that 64% would thus pick Herb as the one coach they did want to play for) can't be arrived at from that.
3/15/2006 12:15:19 PM
you dont understand statistics^^either way, this is stupid, and should be locked[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 12:17 PM. Reason : d]
3/15/2006 12:16:56 PM
3/15/2006 12:19:46 PM
judging on his acc success alonethank god we didnt get that pile of trash
3/15/2006 12:21:59 PM
Shav would've been a much better fit here, rather than trying to force himself into Duke's system. But it's all in the past anyway.I just hope we add a couple of good big men in the '07 class (along with Wright and hopefully McMillan).
3/15/2006 12:22:22 PM
^^ But wasn't he hurt for a while? I just don't think he fit into the team with Redick taking all of the outside shots and SheWill getting the inside looks. I think he could have reached his potential on a different team.[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 12:23 PM. Reason : ^]
3/15/2006 12:23:26 PM
like some people have said...this poll was in sports illustrated and is in fact true...
3/15/2006 1:25:33 PM
yeah, chris wright isn't a top player, and he didn't commit here because he likes our offenseyou're absolutely right
3/15/2006 1:27:29 PM
This may have been mentioned in the other thread. In this poll SI interviewed 1 player from each team and asked them all the same questions. You could not vote for your own team on any of the questions. I believe they did not include BC. So 4 of the 11 said they would not want to play for Herb. This is not nearly enough of a sample to say "36% of ACC players"Also in this same poll for the Big 12. Bob Knight was voted coach they'd least like to play for as well as being voted coach they'd most like to play for.
3/15/2006 1:28:24 PM
A couple of NBA teams do run a variation of the princeton offense. New Jersey, the most notable. With all of Denver's backdoor moves, I wantto think that they also run something similar, but I'm not sure on that.So if the NBA uses the system, surely Herb's system can help in preperation for the NBA.
