he will start for the chargers next year

shotty doesn't really want him to start but as long as priv does what we know he is capable of no one will be complaining about him starting for very long

Supposedly, this is going to knock Mario to #2 overall in the draft

huh? Shotty would rather finish paying him $40 mil to sit the bench while 3rd string starts? He's not going to get another qb. That's 80% of the reason of getting rid of brees (20% injury). He couldn't afford to pay another QB.

^^I think the Saints will trade down. But that's just my opinion.

that was the front office's reason for getting rid of one of the two, not Shottenheimer's. The stuff I have been reading has said that the front office was torn 50/50 on who the starter should be and Shott. was on the Brees side

Schottenheimer's a loyalty guy. I'm not at all surprised that he would be on the side of his starter.

That being said, I think this is a great situation for Phil, having LT and Gates out there. Hopefully they'll pick up a receiver or two to add to McCardell, and get the defense back up to par.

Not only is schotty a loyalty guy, he is the ultimate "safe bet" coach. He'll never stick his neck out on an unproven player when he has a proven guy. That was his main reason for wanting Brees back.

Rivers will be the starter and he'll have the best pass-catching TE and RB in the league to dump the ball off to. The question is whether he'll have a decent O-Line and a legit WR to complement McCardell.

as the resident Saints fan on TWW,

I say FUCK THIS STUPID ASS SIGNING.

Brees can't win when his team isn't sneaking up on people.

The Saints are a good 3+ years away from sneaking up on fucking LSU, much less a professional team.

this made me laugh

and rivers couldn't be put into a better situation when you think about it; people have to respect LT and Gates is an absolute monster; im calling it right now; p riv to the pro bowl and the chargers to the playoffs

i have complete confidence in him; he led our football team to four winning seasons and never really had a great d; good luck priv

on the contrary, it is not an ideal situation for Rivers.

Chargers fans were expecting to go to the playoffs if Brees returned. If Rivers plays like a rookie and costs the team some wins, the fans will turn on him quickly.

The expectations are high in San Diego. NC State fans should know all about high expectations and what happens when a team doesn't meet them. San Diego fans could easily give Rivers the Jay Davis treatment.

Chargers need to beef up the o-line and sign a good receiver if Rivers is going to have a chance of making the pro-bowl next year.

Tough to make the pro-bowl in a conference that has Manning, Palmer and Roethlisberger in it.

Culpeper is probably set to have a big year as well.
