I’m trying to plan my honeymoon, which will be this June. Which would be better at that time, Charleston, SC or Savannah, GA?‘Better’ is determined by:1. Price – cheaper is better2. Variety of attractions / things to do – greater variety is better3. Type of attraction – museums, shopping, historical attractions a plus4. Number of attractions – more is better5. Restaurants – good food and wine a HUGE plus6. Atmosphere – small-town, peaceful, and unique is what we’re looking forI've looked stuff up on both city's homepage, but I haven't actually been to either. For those who have actually been there, what are your thoughts?

Pleasant is pretty cool tooCharleston is loaded with great places to eat, jesus i try and eat a different place every weekwe have japanese, chinese, greek, indian, mexican, italian, american..etc etchope that helped a lil....

Steven - thanks for your awesome help :-)

Charleston. Much more to do. Savannah is nice...but it's like a lesser version of Charleston.I'm a little biased because I live in Charleston, but my cousin lived in Savannah so I've visited there several times. It is really nice, but IMO Charleston is a better place for a honeymoon. And I'm sure Steven can help you too, but let me know if you have any questions about places to stay/eat/go out/do while you're in Charleston. My mom just remarried last September and they had a small honeymoon in Charleston and had a great time. There are a lot of very nice, romantic restaurants as well as rooftop and outside bars that provide a great atmosphere to have a few drinks and listen to a good band. Just walking around East Bay/Broad/King and all of the streets in between with the old houses and buildings is nice. [Edited on March 12, 2006 at 11:16 PM. Reason : .]

charleston was pretty cooltheres tons of shopping in the downtown area (but im not really into shopping so i couldnt tell you much more than that) -- TONS of places to eat -- seemed like there were lots of attractions, mostly lots of war related crap like aircraft carriers and forts and all thatthe beach at sullivans island was pretty nice and not too crowded.i was only there for a weekend though, so i couldnt tell you much more than that. hope it helps some.[Edited on March 12, 2006 at 11:16 PM. i live in charleston and it would be ok. charleston is cheapthere is a large variety of shit to do heremuseums, shopping, historial is the name of the game hereplenty of attractions that will take a full to half daylots of good food down town as well are stroll to mt p or di for some other optionsatmosphere, its a tourist town
3/12/2006 11:46:32 PM
I live in charleston as well, and i gotta say its nice here.Youll like it better than savannah.
3/12/2006 11:55:04 PM
Been to Savannah a lot. It's really gorgeous and I love the feel of the town. However, aside from doing non-stop walking tours, river boat rides, and visiting cutesy shops, there's nothing to do. There IS a beach...but...I wouldn't go there.

Charleston and Savannah are close enough together to do both--just stay in Charleston and make a day trip down to Savannah (it's worth a day trip). There's plenty to do in Charleston: Fort Sumter, Battery, Yorktown, SC Aquarium, the Market, the Hunley, etc.For a good view of the city, walk to the top of the Ravenel Bridge over the Cooper River. Go early before it gets too hazy.Check the county parks for various activities. They usually have canoe/nature trips through the local swamps and rivers. http://www.ccprc.com/index.aspNorth of Mount Pleasant on 17 is Francis Marion National Forest. Plenty of trails. The Palmetto Trail starts there. The I'on Swamp trail goes through an old rice plantation (it's all overgrown now, but you can still see the canals, snakes and gators). If you go north on 17, make sure you stop at Jack's Cosmic Dogs.Go to Hunting Island State Park for a day trip. For good French eats, go to Rue de Jean downtown. Very, very, very, very, very good. Also, try Gullah Cuisine in Mount P. Not fancy, but good.I like Isle of Palms for the beach.Make sure you stay downtown. If you can't swing staying downtown, try Mount Pleasant. Stay out of North Charleston, Hanahan, Goose Creek, and West Ashley.

if you're going to hunting island stop by Bueford, SC. I think thats how its spelled. Its really nice with some great resturants. Hunting Island has a pretty nice light house that you can go to the top of.

1.Pretty close to same2. C-ton3. Savanna might edge out for historicity but not by much.4. C-ton by far5. Both good6. Savanna's probably a little bit quieter/small townish. But Charleston has quiet bits. Both Unique/quaint.I'd go with Charleston if you do plan to go out a lot. But if you JUST want peace and quiet Savannah might edge out.Another consideration is I think Charleston is a lot less of a pain to get to.
3/13/2006 12:40:40 PM
The more I think about it, the more sense it makes to stay in Charleston and make a day trip to Savannah. I'm glad I asked
3/13/2006 2:19:27 PM
charleston, hands down with a day trip to savannah, or maybe even stay overnight down there if you want to take in some of the nighlife. also try to get out of the downtown area of charleston, out to kiawah or seabrook.i used to live down there and still have family that live on james island, and we're down there usually 1-2x a year. make sure to eat at Poogan's Porch http://www.poogansporch.com/main.html, it's a local fave. also take the carriage tour, some of the ghost tours and walking tours of the houses along the battery. the aquarium is decent, haven't had a chance to see the hunley. you can also get to folley beach for a beachy type atmosphere (think outer banks).if you have any questions i'd be happy to try to answer them

I always wonder why people try to plan honeymoons thats filled with so many activities. When I go on mine, there will only be one consistent activity. Sex. 3-7 days of nothing but sex.I guess people get pretty bored with it after a day or two.
3/13/2006 4:07:43 PM
holy crap, i didn't realize this many twwers live in charleston. i lived there last year.

I've seen a decent amount when I've gone into King St. Grille to catch a game. But when I go other places to catch games, I rarely see State fans.

there are 50 places i would rather be then charleston SC on my honeymoonmight have to do with the fact that the ghetto and king street are an elway football throw apart

3/14/2006 1:34:29 AM
Charleston's a MUCH better "honeymoon" location.Much more laid back, close access to Myrtle, tons of great places to eat and stay, lots of nice attractions...just a better atmosphere for a honeymoon. It's just easier to find quiet, relaxing areas in Charleston.
3/14/2006 1:36:56 AM
dude, Charleston isn't all that close to Myrtleand why would you go to Myrtle Beach for a honeymoon, anyway? I'm not hating on the place--Dad has a place at Cherry Grove--but it's not a honeymoon sort of location.

^ a house on logan rd. got robbed a few months ago. Theres a crack house there.omf behind hillsbourgh st is the ghettoooooooo
3/14/2006 5:52:35 PM
^^Holy shit!!! Don't go to NYC!!! When I was there a couple years back in September a couple planes flew into buildings!! That shit happens all the time there!!Seriously, there are "rough" parts in every city you go to. I doubt honeymooners plan on spending any of their time in Charleston in the "ghetto" neighborhoods.
3/14/2006 6:41:53 PM
ive been to savannah and charleston, and charleston was by far a better place for a honeymoon, although go a little further south and you'll run into key west
3/14/2006 6:55:23 PM
more like another 8 hours.and if i wanna hang out with gay people i can go to san franor chapel hill

Anyone that thinks King St isnt ghetto hasnt driven far enough north on King. I live in Charleston and my gf and I go to Savannah sometimes for fun. Savannah is prettier and more charmingly southern, but there is definately more to do in Chucktown.
3/14/2006 9:54:42 PM
I live in Savannah for a year and I suggest Charleston. Every good reason has already been stated.
3/14/2006 10:13:56 PM
Charleston for everything except small town feel. Savannah has that down to a tee.
