I have a 8400 Dell and it was super quiet when I first got it. I keep it on 24/7 and sometimes shut down when it gets slow. I've had it for a year now. But I noticed that now it is getting a bit louder. I dont know if it is the fan or HD.

clean the dust from your fans, they are probably in need of some cleaning / lubing. if it's a hum, it's typically your fan, if it's a vibration it's typically your hard drive.

i sprayed WD-40 into the fan one time and it made it pretty quiet again... haven't had any problems with it since, and this was like 3 years ago

crisco on the processor ALWAYS does the trick! [/old thread reference]Ummm...you tried opening the case yet? Love to help you out ... but its kinda like telling me there's a noise coming from the engine ... and you have yet to pop the hood and isolate the noise.[Edited on March 10, 2006 at 6:22 AM. find the fan making the noise.unscrew it from whatever its on.clean it, wd-40 it, put it back in.
