Is there a way to put a feature length movie onto the new 40 Gig iPod Video?

Yes. You have to reencode it (which can take up to several hours, depending on how fast/slow your computer is).

How many of these movies would fit on it?

You probably could compress a movie down to iPod sizes in as little as 800MB (probably less... i'm not up on my h.264 quality and bit rates), so approximately 40.[Edited on March 9, 2006 at 7:01 PM. Reason : ]

It's not really a "Video iPod" though, it's just an iPod that happens to be able to play some videos.

as long as you dont want tv playback its really easy to get a full length movie under 250mbi mean its a 2.5" screen people, you can compress it a lot without being able to tell[Edited on March 15, 2006 at 10:06 PM. Reason : .]

Let's do this by the numbers. This iPod has a 320x240 display and 40 GB of storage, right? And it does H.264 video? H.264 at 320x240 has a maximum required bitrate of, like, 768 Kbps. Assuming the average movie is 90 minutes long (5,400 seconds), that gives us:
