If you're that worried about it... Ask for a jewelers contract stating they participate in the Kimberley process... If they don't have it, walk out.
There is SUCH a low percentage that don't use it, if they don't know the answer, you have a dumb/new salesperson, or the jeweler got a diamond in the rough from about 0.03% that trade without it.
