I use notepad2. The speed and simplicity of notepad.exe with some added extras including syntax highlighting. Plus you can download the source and customize it. http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

3/9/2006 10:22:53 AM
I've used textpad and found it to be pretty useful. You can download syntax files for other languages than the standard include, i think i have a VBScript one stored away myself (if you go that way and need it)

slickedit is a powerful text editor for powerful programmersi use it everyday and i love it. it's all command driven and has a command line within SE. you can emulate pratically all your old favorite text editors (keyboard shortcuts and bindings with VI, Visual Studio, CUA, SlickEdit standard, Brief, CodeWright, GNU Emacs, CodeWarrior and on and on).You can code or record your own macros.Create your own aliases.there are too many features to list. Download the trial and see for yourself. Version 11 will be coming out at the beginning of April and will be the best SE release yet!I have beta tested it!

slickedit is more of a coding IDE than a 'text editor'
3/9/2006 10:49:29 AM
i just don't understand why some idiots choose to use notpad when there are so many programs out here to use that makes coding easier.

SE is a text editor that supports coding. So I guess you are kinda right.^b/c it makes their CSC p33n HUGE!!!1[Edited on March 9, 2006 at 10:52 AM. Reason : huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge]
3/9/2006 10:51:46 AM
SE also takes noticably longer to start up than notepad/textpad
3/9/2006 10:53:26 AM
what.. like 30-60 seconds longer? hopfully you will not have 'start-up rage' and break your monitor with your keyboard.
3/9/2006 10:54:48 AM
i usually break my keyboard with my monitor instead. keyboards are easier to replace
3/9/2006 10:58:50 AM
when i open PDFs by accident, I have a sudden urge to strangle every programmer at Adobe.

I have been tinkering with Alleycode for the past few days. Its pretty slick, and I like it. I make webpages, and such as a pastime, so I don't really need anything that cost, or that is a really powerful tool to facilitate coding.
3/9/2006 11:16:57 AM
I use Notepad2 for general things, its way better than plain old notepadThen for anything Java related, Eclipse, and its freeIf I could get the boss to pay for it, I'd use UltraEdit, and I fucking despise SlickEdit
