Say, for instance, Tripp Tracy and John Forslund. I know they travel with the team on the charters. But do they get paid by FSN South or the Carolina Hurricanes? In other words do they benefit by how far the team goes in the playoffs, how many butts are in the seats, etc, etc.Hearing that Tripp played goal in practice while Gerber was in Turin got me thinking about this. Also, the way that John Davidson interacts with the Rangers makes me think the club pays the commentators rather then the network..

I'm fairly sure they sign their contracts with the team. They would be the commentators even if another television network picked up the Canes.

Contracts are with the team. That's why John and Tripp did the games that were on WRALHD, etc.On top of that, they're both organization guys. Tripp was drafted as a goaltender by the Flyers in '93, and then signed by the Canes as a minor league free agent after graduating from Harvard. John was the MR guy (same job Mike Sundheim has now) for the Whalers back when Brian Burke was the GM there.
