Thats terrible. He helped the Twins to their only real success before the salaries started to rise. There I can say something nice.[Edited on March 6, 2006 at 8:32 PM. Reason : too harsh]

I remember crying after the 91 series too when the Twins won... Farewell to a great ball player from a Braves fan.

Farewell to my favorite baseball player ever! You left too soon! [Edited on March 7, 2006 at 9:01 AM. Reason : ]
3/7/2006 8:59:03 AM
As a Braves fan, I was never a Puckett supporter, but he did make the most of his ability and was an all around great baseball player/person. Hate to see a guy like him pass away so soon...
3/7/2006 9:26:59 AM
In game 6 of the 91 series, I remember Puckett predicting a win against Atlanta. The Twins were down 3 games to 2. Pucket makes a catch off the wall and then homers to win the game. They went on to win the series in 7. I forgot who the pitcher was for the Twins that night, but didn't he go all 10 innings against Smoltz? 1 - 0 I believe the final was. I still cry. If it weren't for Kirby, the Braves would have 2 rings in the 14 straight division titles.RIP Kirby. He had some ungodly amount of hits in his 10+ seasons. Wonder what could've happened.

^ Jack Morris was the pitcher in Game 7. If it wasn't for Lonnie Smith not knowing how to run the damn bases, then Game 7 would have never gone to extras. But that is a moot point and Kirby's finest hour was definitely Game 6.
3/7/2006 10:14:33 AM
Yep, or Kent Hrbek pulling Ron Gant off of first and tagging him out. Lonnie Smith's error was erased by Sid Bream's baserunnign skills in Game 7 of the NLCS the year after I still smile at that one.But yes, Game 6 was all Kirby. That was an amazing individual performance.
3/7/2006 10:16:22 AM
Kirby was a great player, and a classy one at that. They dont make 'em like that much anymore.
3/7/2006 10:17:03 AM
Yeah he really was. He was one of the few that I could see playing baseball if the pay were $20,000 a year.
3/7/2006 10:20:34 AM
^I miss that about sports..... Playing for the love of the game.
3/7/2006 10:36:23 AM
