My housemates and I are looking to purchase one, so I thought I'd come here and ask for recommendations. We'd use our desktops, but we're Mac people and TiVo hasn't yet tuned into the mac revolution. Any thoughts?

all the stand alone dvd recrorders i've seen aren't impressive for their price, for $300 i'd buy an emachine.

^ exactly. You want to record tv content? Get a DVR box from Time Warner. You want to record DVDs from your computer? Get an external DVD drive for your Mac.

TiVotoGo, which lets you transfer files from your TiVo to your desktop, is only available for Windows, at the moment, so the DVD burners on our iMac and Powerbook isn't going to work. stopdropnrol, I was looking for a stand alone dvd recorder, but you may be right...buying a PC might be a more efficient way to go about it.

buy a used computer off here with a DVD burner and decent CPU. might be able to get it cheaper depending on specs, etc.

I'm not really sure about the quality of them as I have never used one but DVD Recorders actually aren't that expensive anymore, there are several in the ~$100 range now.
