Will Wright talking through a demonstration of "Spore"http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8372603330420559198&q=spore

3/2/2006 10:16:44 PM
Damn. This really looks amazing.
3/2/2006 10:41:45 PM
Yeah, I remember that. But pee in your eye really is different than pee in your hair.It looks promising, but ambitious as hell.
3/2/2006 10:42:08 PM
Its fascinating from a technical perspective.but looks boring as shit from an entertainment perspective
3/2/2006 10:43:47 PM
Depends on what you think of as entetainment. I love sandbox games.
3/2/2006 10:47:16 PM
that much freedom in creature design better not be an illusion. cuz im getting this one.
3/2/2006 11:03:44 PM
Why do I have no want to build all these races and planets that mean nothing to me.Whats the point other than showing how much time youve wasted building goofy looking civilizations.
3/2/2006 11:44:09 PM
its kinda unclear....is this an mmo or not?
3/2/2006 11:44:48 PM
No. Players will be indirectly connected. Player A makes a creature, which is loaded into a giant database. The creature that Player A made might show up in Player B's world, though Player A will not be "there."I heard it described as "massively single player."Same goes for planets, galaxies, objects, architecture...Theoretically.
3/2/2006 11:48:51 PM
so .... these creatures end up in othere peoples universes? just the creatures? not their worlds?
3/2/2006 11:51:57 PM
I think their worlds can be assimilated, too. I'm not sure how all this works, and I haven't looked up that much about the game. All I know is I desperately want it to work. Can you imagine?
3/2/2006 11:54:12 PM
yea.... i just dont see why it cant be mmo
3/2/2006 11:55:14 PM
One step at a time. If it was an MMO, then I have to interact with idiots. Don't get me wrong, I play MMOs. I enjoy MMOs. But this seems to transcend MMO. It's artful. And I'm not sure if that's possible since each Player's game is procedurally generated. If it was an MMO, the overworld would have to be the same, which would involve scripting, which negates the game...I think. I know zip about computers/game design.
3/2/2006 11:59:05 PM
to me, this takes all the best parts of an mmo and puts them in a single player game. From how I understand it, the game would be different every time you play because the other people playing would be creating different creatures that you would interact with and your creature could be different as well. PLUS, it doesn't seem there is a chat system, which is awesome because most people in mmo's are just annoying. Also, there is no trying to play catch-up like in a traditional mmo. You aren't competing against what level someone else is at specifically, which means if I only play an hour a day, or every other day, I can still enjoy it.This might be one of the first games I've bought in a while.
3/3/2006 12:13:00 AM
I hope it can deliver everything it wants to.It's already amazing.
3/3/2006 12:16:23 AM
I was just looking at some screenshots from http://spore.ea.com/ does anyone think the colors are a little off? I don't know, they seem too bright, exaggerated.I liked the color, or lack thereof, in the video better.
3/3/2006 12:18:10 AM
3/3/2006 12:27:09 AM
I remember reading about this a while back. What they've been able to accomplish blows my mind.
3/3/2006 12:54:47 AM
Man, that looks really cool.
3/3/2006 1:21:59 AM
when does this come out?
3/3/2006 2:00:15 AM
3/3/2006 2:20:47 AM

3/3/2006 2:26:46 AM
3/3/2006 8:05:34 AM
dammit if he says "procedurally generated" one more time
3/3/2006 9:44:23 AM
This game looks amazing. The concept is sound, and it restores my faith in Maxis. (Sim Earth? Sim Ant? COME ON)
3/3/2006 10:22:56 AM
^^ its a game developer presentation, get over it.It looks pretty impressive, but its not something ill play
3/3/2006 10:25:42 AM
when i played the craptastic sim earth way back in the day, this is what i dreamed of. i hope they pull it off well.
3/3/2006 10:46:06 AM
I don't have a link, but did anyone see the E3 footage of spore? man I can't fucking wait.
5/14/2006 5:29:08 PM

5/14/2006 6:00:01 PM

5/14/2006 6:00:41 PM
this game could be the real deal
5/15/2006 12:27:56 AM
did someone say religious experience?OHMYGOD
5/15/2006 1:22:36 AM
spore ftw
5/15/2006 11:36:35 PM
looks like youtube is down at the moment, but here's a link once it's back up to a video of Robin Williams creating a Spore creature at E3:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3DRiREBm9Q&eurl=http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=17426
5/16/2006 12:24:46 AM
Yeah, I watched that at work earlier today. Williams schtick aside, it was pretty cool. I haven't heard enough about this game to know what you're supposed to do with these creatures once you've created them, though.Edit: Watching the first video posted makes the game seem really cool, while at the same time making Will Wright seem really not cool.[Edited on May 16, 2006 at 12:36 AM. Reason : This entire post was created procedurally!!!]
5/16/2006 12:32:39 AM
5/16/2006 4:26:20 PM
the man is just plain sick of showing off this game....there have been like 234234 press conferences just for the damn creature builder alone
5/16/2006 4:30:44 PM
Oh, I certainly respect what the man has done for the gaming industry, procedurally. It's just that, procedurally, he seems a little attached to certain words that don't really tell people anything, procedurally.
5/16/2006 5:00:58 PM
im only interested in the game during the organism levelim not interested in all that stupid space building and city shit
5/16/2006 5:01:31 PM
8/9/2006 11:26:45 PM
tttt
4/16/2007 5:12:35 PM
intense ttt
4/16/2007 5:27:05 PM
why?
4/16/2007 5:58:20 PM
because this game has the biggest scope ever conceived for a game, i.e. evolution
4/16/2007 6:39:50 PM
yea i cant wait. but it still doesnt come out for months right?i must admit the wait had become a bit tiresome.
4/16/2007 6:51:50 PM
Anyone know what the deal with this game is right now? On http://www.spore.com the last thing they have for news is August '06, with release date Q4 2007...
4/16/2007 7:29:20 PM
