3/2/2006 3:52:19 PM
SPORT!....
3/2/2006 3:55:04 PM
Greg Raymer and his stupid ass glasses piss me off. I hate watching any match he is in just because he puts those cheap ass 80s Max Hedburg shades on anytime he's playing a hand.
3/2/2006 4:38:42 PM
yeah but he's really good. i didn't like him at first, but he's grown on me
3/2/2006 4:51:15 PM
^,^^. You guys fucked up the rotation, I thought we could get a SPORT, NOT A SPORT, chant going on in here...
3/2/2006 4:52:52 PM
Alright sorry...Not a sport
3/2/2006 5:05:01 PM
this isn't the guy to learn poker from...he's a calling station who hits ridiculously...rich mf'er now but still a calling station
3/2/2006 5:45:38 PM
i think he proved himself as an elite poker player with his performance this year

[Edited on March 2, 2006 at 5:52 PM. Reason : i cant read]

^^^ lol, Greg Raymer has been beating the games at Foxwoods longer than you've been alive.Based on his results, and the hundred or so posts Ive read from him I can vouch that he knows a shitload about poker.Televised poker might make someone look like a "calling station" because you never really understand the blind structure, stack sizes, pot odds at the time of the play...Even when this information is available on tv, it is often estimated or jsut made up entirely by ESPN.
3/2/2006 6:16:28 PM
anyone on here play at world tavern? i play at mojo's and babineaus
3/2/2006 6:19:55 PM
^^i'm pretty sure they don't just randomly make up figures
3/2/2006 7:10:07 PM
winn, you have no idea what you are talking about.
3/2/2006 7:24:43 PM
Play a real game, women.
3/2/2006 7:31:17 PM
ive read his posts too, and have heard that he started out by counting cards and trying to beat blackjack. guy knows what he is doing
3/2/2006 7:38:03 PM
the big thing with the tv poker is that they dont show every hand... just the "exciting" ones, or ones where someone goes out, or makes a big move etc. So if you havent played a lot of poker it looks like everyone is a calling machine and everyone hits some crazy hand every damn deal
3/2/2006 7:40:09 PM
i set up the network in his house. holla back
3/2/2006 7:42:19 PM
did you set his homepage to TWW?
3/2/2006 7:43:55 PM
2+2
3/2/2006 7:53:40 PM
3/2/2006 8:00:27 PM
ok glad to know i'm watching randomly generated hands and pot sizes
3/2/2006 8:38:09 PM
98% of the hole cards are not falsified...the pot and stacks sizes on the other hand are usually estimated by PA's.Not the ones at the final table, but the ones midway through the tournament are
3/3/2006 1:00:19 AM
raymer had more than enough chips to be a calling machine, btw.
3/3/2006 1:12:27 AM
"This thread sucks... my chips!"
3/3/2006 7:07:51 AM
Yeah, Raymer is very solid.Moneymaker on the other hand, I would play him heads up for my life's savings.
3/3/2006 8:32:03 PM
yeah moneymaker sucks. i was a fan of his because he has a cool name and showed that amateurs can win. has he won a single tournament since 2003?
3/3/2006 10:26:03 PM
$149? WTF
3/3/2006 11:46:38 PM
^^ Moneymaker went to UT the same time I did and lived two doors down my junior year, got hammered with him a few times, blows my mind that his is doing this now... didnt seem like the smartest guy
3/4/2006 12:15:25 PM
^ Well he practically bankrupted himself within a year of winning the WSOP.No need to envy Moneymaker, he went from leading a normal life to becoming a leech. The thing about 95% of poker players is that no matter how much money they make at one level, they always want to see if they can take it to the NEXT level.Eventually they either reach a point where they can no longer beat the game, or they play above their bankroll (flirting with risk of ruin) and go broke. In Moneymaker's case he hit a big score, suddenly thought he was a "good" poker player and proceeded to blow through everything. The thing about tournaments is a few lucky breaks here and there can make anyone look like a superstar. Even if he has some discernable poker skills, its nearly impossible to make a lot of money playing live tournaments without being independently wealthy or having a backer.

the trick is to be marketable. hellmuth hasn't won shit in a while, but he's such an icon because of his past success and personality. he's got endorsements out the wazoo, so he could fuck up for the rest of his life and be set (although i'm sure the bank from 9 wsop titles and countless other money finishes doesn't hurt either)
3/4/2006 2:06:36 PM
Right, being marketable is the key.Think about the reasons all the pros write books and/or give seminars (like the one above) teaching people how to play poker or private lessons. Why would they want to teach people how to get better? Because they make as much or more money selling the information as they do using it...
