EVERYONE CAN CHILL OUT NOW, I HAVE ARRIVED IN THE THREAD!Good call on the d50. Just make sure to buy quality lenses. You get what you pay for, and if you cheap out on lenses it'll show. The built-in flash on that camera also sucks dick, so you might want to invest in a nice speedlight.

gg zipit will be invaluable to u in the big appletake it erry where sonNOW GET A 1.5 OR 1.8 PRIME WITH THE QUICKNESS
3/1/2006 11:13:22 PM
50mm 1.8? nice - thanks for the recommendation!i've never used a prime lens before, but i've heard they are sharp, like you're sayingand i appreciate the PMs!-ZiP!-
3/1/2006 11:15:14 PM
i say go 1.8 for affordability and it is super sharp... dropping to the 1.4 is waaaaay too much of a price difference for you to jump on it unless you are taking low low light stuff.imo

And as far as primes go, I am definitely going to invest in some bombass primes before I worry about a nice L series zoom. They are generally less expensive and better in quality (since there is less moving parts and it is a less complicated system)First lens I am going to buy, as soon as I can afford it is a 60mm f/2.8 Macro, which should be a good all-purpose walkaround lens, plus it has a tiny min. focus distance so it is excellent for macro stuff too.http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=293&sort=7&cat=fav&page=1
3/2/2006 12:45:05 AM
^^thanks for the link - i may pick that one up once i try out these initial 2 some-ZiP!-
3/2/2006 8:39:17 AM
also, i'd recommend going nikkor lense before off brand if you can afford it. sigma and tamron are decent but can't beat a nikkor.
3/2/2006 11:25:47 AM
that picture is pretty shitty for that camera
3/2/2006 11:31:20 AM
its a snap shot... what makes it so shitty?
3/2/2006 11:43:59 AM
I dunno, read reviews. Sometimes the SLIGHT difference in quality is worth the big difference in price in the sigma/tamron lenses. Sometimes build quality is better, and often the sigma/tamron lenses have less vignetting and are sharper in the corners.
3/2/2006 11:45:14 AM
depends on the lense. sigma and tamron have more play in their lense quality... nikon is a bit more strict... but like i said, if you can afford it go nikkor all the way. Although i've definitely seen some lenses from other companies that i wouldn't mind spending for no problem and the price difference would have made me choose the cheaper model. btw i say depends on the lense with the sharper corners and stuff.
3/2/2006 11:49:38 AM
Not to mention, I don't know much about Nikon lenses. Since I'm a Canon guy, I know there is NO substitute for a L series lens, regardless of manufacturer. But, since they are very expensive I've looked at a few sigma lenses (not too much tamron) and sometimes you get more bang for your buck. I know sigma just released a new 70-200mm zoom with is the other day and it looks damn nice.
3/2/2006 11:52:20 AM
agreed... when working with canon there really is no substitute for the L series.but nikon glass is really sharp. hard for other companies to compare to it.mmmm 105mm mirco ed/vr/if/af-s...
