tired of studying? no problem. become an air traffic controller and earn more than i probably will.http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/Careers/02/24/cb.no.degree.jobs/index.html

With my degree I would be looking to start at the mid-low end of that list and in ~5 years be at the top. After 5 more probably well above it.It isn't like you can start at those $$$$$$$, it would probably take a good long time to work your way up to those jobs that pay $texas without a degree.

- Wal-Mart Store Managers- Warrant Officer- Bails Bondman- Bounty Hunter

With my bachelor's degree and 1 year out, I am already above any job on that list except for air traffic controller.^^ exactly. If you aren't worthless, a degree is worth it.[Edited on February 25, 2006 at 7:50 PM. Reason : sdf]

even jobs that don't require degrees still have competition, not everyone can have those jobs, so if you both opt out of education & can't get one of those jobs then where are you?education is about more than $ anyways.

cnn never lies!
2/25/2006 10:14:34 PM
well its not a bachelors degree
2/25/2006 10:21:40 PM
They should have CEO on that list. Bill Gates and Michael Dell dropped out of college.

2/25/2006 10:48:06 PM
i'd like to be a police detective
2/25/2006 11:39:21 PM
some of those things still require specialized training, like being an RN. Slightly misleading article
2/25/2006 11:49:38 PM
hell even with a college degree i dont make as much as them.but oh well that will all change shortly
2/26/2006 5:25:18 AM
you have to have an associates degree to be a dental hygienist. UNC has a bachelor's program too.

^ that's right. NEVER read CNN for anything AT ALL! NEVER! you're foolish to even CONSIDER typing in http://www.cnn.com or turning to their channel!!NEVER!
2/26/2006 10:29:10 AM
Yea, I'm thinking registered nurse, dental hygienist, and nuclear medicine technologist require at least an associate's.more education = more moneydefinitely misleading article, but hey, I love less competition...
2/26/2006 10:32:55 AM
correct me if I'm wrong but RN's are liscenced, so that technically isn't a college degree as much as it is a ceritification program
2/26/2006 1:06:23 PM
I read “Nuclear medicine technologist” as secretary for the real people in this field. Maybe its not, but lots of people have more fancy job titles than jobs, so some of these things that seem like it be crazy to get without having a degree might not actually be what we think they are based off the names.
2/26/2006 1:08:07 PM
its actually a pretty techical positionway to look stupid
2/26/2006 1:24:50 PM
Actually, if you guys read the article, it specifically states four-year degree. Most of the jobs listed there do NOT require four-year degrees. They DO require specialized training though ... POSSIBLY extending beyond four years but not earning a four year degree. I can promise you can go to CPCC in Charlotte and get a degree/license/certificate/whatever it is in dental hygiene.
2/26/2006 1:33:59 PM
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE JOBS requires EITHER at LEAST 10years of paying your dues... more like 15-20... or a tech degree (2years of fairly challenging school) and the starting path to achieve those goals are probably in teh 25k range... and those figures are the BEST that your ever going to see... whereas starting salary in ECE for a ugrad is $50k on the low side[Edited on February 26, 2006 at 3:05 PM. Reason : or a tech degree]
2/26/2006 3:04:10 PM
^oh shitz, ECE in this bitch
2/26/2006 8:42:55 PM
that's it, i'm dropping this molecular pathology b.s. and becoming an aircraft controller
2/26/2006 8:45:15 PM
my thoughts exactly.

Just because a job doesn't "require" a degree doesn't mean that many people in that field don't have 4 yr degrees. Many large corporations stipulate that the title "manager" only goes to degreed people, so others are not eligible for promotion. My Mom worked for a trucking company with this system, so most of the drivers and dock guys were stuck without a shot at the "transportation manager" position. I'd like to see the stats on the percentage of air traffic controllers without degrees. According to my dentist, though, hygienist is definitely the way to go in that field because of a shortage, so at least I believe some of it.
2/26/2006 9:22:32 PM
yea that list is kind of inaccurate. My dad was an air traffic controller for awhile and made CRAP money. he went to school for 2 years on top of his college degree. and he got moved around like 3 times in 2 years, never to one of his preferred locations, and he made NOTHING close to that, not even 1/3 of that (i know this was about 20 years ago but STILL inflation doesnt account for that much money)dental hygienist requires around 2 years of schooling/trainingradiation therapist requires about the same including taking chemisty, biology, and some other courses based one my friends mom who did that when i was in HS.
