Are you talking about the nut that holds the basket to the transmission snout?I went to Kmart and got the biggest pair of channel lock pliers they had in stock. Actually, that's what I used to tighten it. I used a hammer and punch to walk it loose.

^^ i gotta see this thing now, how many tards does it take to fix a washing machine, i'll guarantee i can get it apart, but good luck getting it back together[Edited on February 25, 2006 at 12:57 PM. Reason : you can use any tools i have, but that means you and josh have to clean out my truck ]

putting it back together is fairly easy. it's just breaking free a nut that's rusted/locked on with a hammer and screwdriver isn't easy when you only have the area inside the tub to work with.how'd you manage to get a pair of channel locks inside the tub? the set I have doesn't quite open far enough, but it barely fits in the tub as it is.

go straight down on it with a huge ass pair, but you need to work all the way around it with a punch to break it loose first

what exactly prompted trying to take it apart? i heard rumors of a bra wire getting stuck under the agitator
2/26/2006 8:47:27 AM
yea - but now i doubt that's what did it - but still, something seems to be caught - maybe in the inner tub basket, or maybe furthur into the pump or basket drive at the bottom of the agitator.........a friend guesses that it's somethine caught in the spinning mechanism or something is worn out like a bearing or the clutch...........from info i've read on the net:these are all the possible things causing my problem:Slow or no spin.... 1. Lid open. 2. Lid switch defective. ( Very Common problem ) 3. Lid switch disconnect plug open/burnt. 4. Clothes between basket and outer tank. 5. Lint filter caught between the wash basket and outer holding tank. ???? 6. Wiring harness. 7. Bad motor capacitor 8. Weak clutch.**9. Timer switches. (possible not allowing the pause required for the transmission to set up to spin) 10. Motor. 11. Cam driver on basket drive broken or basket drive weak. 12. Spin tube. 13. Notches in drive block worn out and not engaging basket drive shaft. 14. Broken motor coupling. See Replacing Motor Coupler Page FYI other info - my model # is 11026292695 ( so it was a Sear's Kenmore but came from Whirlpool )http://www3.sears.com/help.htmlif you enter in that model # - it will show you all the parts + diagrams

she sounds like she knows more about em than i ever will.[Edited on February 26, 2006 at 11:11 AM. Reason : -]

that's b/c i spent half a day reading about the shit on the internet - it's called research - i can read stuff & sort of understand how it works....atleast i have the initiative to try & solve problems on my on.

im fucken impressed, man
2/26/2006 10:58:04 AM

um no, but thx - my washer is far from broken - it's only 5yrs. old & it has a fixable problem
2/26/2006 11:31:34 AM
so is the agitator not working or is the spin cycle fucked up?
2/26/2006 12:37:02 PM
it will only fill & drain, no rinse, no spin - the agitator seems to not be working therefore
2/26/2006 12:40:27 PM
actually that kinda sounds more like an electrical problem, but we'll see
2/26/2006 12:42:29 PM
It sounds like transmission issues to me. The damn things have slipper and sprag clutch assemblies, and it sounds like one of 'em is shot.I know that, for the last GE washer my wife and I had, I ended up replacing the whole transmission assembly for around 150 bux. Next time, I'll just go buy a used machine.

thats why i go digging through grandpas garage, he never throws away anything, he has hundreds of motors, gearboxes, timers, switches, water heater elements and thermostats, stove parts, about anything under the sun.
2/26/2006 12:56:15 PM
Could be the timer
2/26/2006 1:28:24 PM
i hope it's not the timer - i thought about that myself - just b/c of the pause in b/w cycles that was occuring.......but i think my man 69 determined that it's a broken coupling piece, which connects the motor to the transmission........thx everyone for their advice!
