and scored on three of them (2 of which were And1's)Cedric Simmons recieved the ball at the top of the key 37 times, and has two assists (from the key, 1 down low) and a three pointer.PLEASE, someone please tell me why we refused to post him up early last night when it could have made a huge difference in the flow of the game?I hate to make another thread, but I really, really want to know the answer to this question.thanks.and by the way...great job last night fans. We all really showed up, i wish our b-ball team had done the same.Oh well, Go Pack!

^^I totally agree with this thread! I really hope the tape gets looked at and things change. Simmons could be a monster down low if we would just get him the ball!GO WOLFPACK!!!![Edited on February 23, 2006 at 10:05 AM. Reason : ^]

PanthroGreat thread. Quite a telling stat...and You, Myself, Billy Packer, and the rest of the Wolfpack nation was wondering why we never took the ball inside....especially when we couldn't throw it in the ocean from 3 point land.

i hate gavin grant

Agreed. When we played Duke, the game plan included Ced all night long. He got the ball down low on almost every possesion and they couldn't stop him. If Sheldon can't handle him, how is Hansborough supposed to? I know Duke doesn't like to double team down low like Carolina did, but still, Ced showed he could take it to the basket and get fouled on the shot.

i dont understand that shit either, i mean ced has a huge game against duke and instead of realizing that we have a force in the paint we decide that we are going to barely give him the ball anymore. herb needs to realize that ced can be more productive in the paint than he will be doing that dumb screen play every other posession.

News Flash: State blows.

duke decided to defend the 3, even if it meant allowing a big game inside. that's why you NEVER saw double teams on Ced and often he had uncontested shots

Well that's just fine too. We give him the ball down low and they double team him, that might leave someone else open somewhere. Also, we couldn't hit anything from outside last night, Bethel was off all night. Either way, Ced should have been more involved.

It doesn't matter if they double-teamThe refs were calling breathing fouls. Go straight for Hansbrough. He should have had 4 fouls with about 15:00 left in the game. He picked up his 4th with 4:00 left on the clock.Give the ball to ced... tell him to take it to the rim... and everyone crash the boards. They'll foul 8 out of 10 times. The game was called very close. Instead we shoot 3's and bullshit jumpshots. Our team plays like a bunch of sissies. We need to get hardnosed and go to the rim. It sure worked for UNC... bttt.I want answers.

It's completely redundant because everyone seems to agree and no knowledgable fan disagrees, but yeah, we should go to Simmons more often.
2/23/2006 10:41:55 AM
so if everyone agrees, how come we still have so many herb supporters on here when it's obvious he blew this game, and well, just blows in general?

Seems like starting with the Clemson game, he has been playing a lot at the top of the key. Almost like Herb is trying to push the offense through him there because he is basically ungaurded. And I never ran the numbers like you did, but it always seemed that he wasn't effective. I was surpisred to see him shoot his one three last night and make it.

best idea ive seen in this thread:crash the boardsthat's all we need to completely elevate our game. we do our stupid little screen w/ ced, and then someone puts up a 3, we miss, and by the time the ball hits the rim, the other 4 players have retreated to midcourt. i remember one play last night were mccauley actually went for an offensive rebound, tipped it out, and someone [i think grant] was sprinting away, turned around, reached for the ball, and after the second of repositioning, still almost picked up the loose ball. if we tried staying in position instead of getting back on defense 10 seconds before theyre on offense, the game would have had a completely different complexion. i dont know the final stats, but at halftime they were ahead of us 12-1 on offensive rebounds. one play in the 2nd half they had like 4. and this is herb's fault. the only player i saw really pressure the offensive boards was mccauley, and he probably only did it because he's a freshman and doesn't know the "system" yet, if you can call what we do a system.

well lokken i think a coach blows if he does something really great (ie go to ced in the duke game...even tho our fans have been screaming for more ced touches all season) then does not do it in arguably the biggest game of the season when it's been proven it works.
2/23/2006 3:59:52 PM
^^that completely undermines the defensive style we use. if we did that, we would have the good FG% defense we have.
