looking for sites that are available for an outdoor wedding and an indoor/outdoor reception in may/june 2007. we're aleady searching online, but i figured i'd also check here, as even tww'ers have weddings!

not a religious ordeal, so no houses of worship. the wedding is not going to be excessively large or high-price, so not looking for anything ridiculously priced.

oh, and no retirement homes/rec centers! looking more for vineyards and the like.

Anderson Point Park, Borden Building, Campbell Lodge, Tucker House. All great sites and are not recreation centers

Also try Mordecai Historic Park. They have a old church and the grounds are avalabe for rent.

I know that you said no rec centers, but I had my wedding at Pleasant Green Community Center in Hillsboro (kinda in between Hillsboro and Durham). It has a nice big outdoor area. The inside looks like an old barn, exposed beams, distressed hardwood floors, etc. We got married outside and had the reception inside. We probably had about 150 people there. I think it only cost like $200 to rent the place from sun up until midnight.

Lake Wheeler deck + conference room. I think the total is $110/hr for the whole thing. If you time it well you won't have to deal with the public (not that they bothered us anyway - they were respectful). Key is to have it toward sunset, when the park closes to the general public.

Rose Garden might be something you'd like.

I'm unfamiliar with many other outdoors areas.

I went to a wedding reception at the NCSU Faculty Club. Id imagine it would be pretty reasonable. It's definitely somwhere between rec center and country club.

The Rose Garden (at The Little Theater) is beautiful, cheap ($100 and no decorations needed) and the roses are usually in bloom through the end of October....

The Velvet Cloak has been in the midst of rennovations lately. I know that my fiance's parents have had to stay elsewhere the past couple times they came to stay. I don't know if they are closed or they were just working on the portion his parents usually stay in (his dad's in a wheel chair).

The Velvet Cloak Inn is open and under new management.
I'm having my reception there in May, so I'll be able to tell you more after that

I've heard people do them outside at Meredith, but booking those areas will be hard.
