I had nero 7 premium (first thing i'd ever used) for a while and really liked it, but it crashed. So I put on nero 6 ultra edition, every dvd i've made with it skips. Not the dvd file, but the actual burned dvd. None of the DVD's i made with 7 skipped. What do you guys use and what are the benefits?

for quick burns of data files i jsut use windows built in burning.wmplayer for audio cdsalcohol 120 for imagesin the past i've done most of this with nero 6 and i've never had a problem with it. The express edition is very nice for quick burns.

^^ i'm assuming you mean they skipped in the dvd player itself? if so, then you probably burned them in dvd+r or dvd+rw format instead of dvd-rom...some older/cheaper players won't play the newer formats and so you have to change the bitsetif you still have problems with nero, go with cdburnerxp pro...free, with all the basic abilities as nerohttp://www.cdburnerxp.se/[Edited on February 22, 2006 at 5:57 PM. ^^I thought XP didn't support DVD burning?I've never had a problem with 6, and prefer it over 7 because its not as bloated. 7 went crazy go nuts with settings on my computer when I installed it.

talking about video_ts folders. I used dvd-r's, and yes i mean that they are skipping in dvd players. I'm using xp pro. The video_ts folders play fine in VLC and other players once they're created. But once i burn them to the dvd they skip in dvd players. Like i said using nero 7 premium i never had this problem using the same burner and dvd-r's from the same batch. I will try the free software that was suggested.

^^^^^ realize that when i was referring to dvd+r/dvd+rw that also includes dvd-r...anything that's not dvd-rom (booktype, bitset, whatever) is not "standard" according to older/cheaper dvd players and they won't play them well...i'd look into it if i were youcheck out http://www.k-probe.com/bitsetting-booktype-faq.php for more information, and this lone post concerning dvd-r bitsetting: http://forums.k-probe.com/viewthread.php?tid=22 (apparently there are issues with bitsetting using dvd-r's?)my suggestion - don't use dvd-r's (they suck in every way), and check your damnable bitset configuration[Edited on February 23, 2006 at 1:45 AM. ^ i'll look into that, would you recommend using dvd-rom discs for video then? For clarification, each of the discs that have skipped only did so at certain parts on the disc. For example one will play completely fine up until about the last 20 minutes of 2hrs then starts skipping really bad (starts around the same spot on 3 different dvd players).

maybe your media is cheap?

dvd-rom isn't really a type of disc in this case, it's a format for burning (i believe it specifies that data is written in 1gb blocks or something)my suggestion would be to pick up some decent media (as suggested above...i personally use whatever's on sale and haven't had any problems, but i suppose sony is a good place to start)i would buy dvd+r discs, and check the bitsetting on your burner (download this prog: http://www.dvdplusrw.org/files/dvdbitsetter2113.zip), make sure it's set to dvd-rom, and give it a go
