NCSU should be in CharlotteBecause Charlotte is awesomeand Raleigh is a pitiful POS city

2/20/2006 12:23:36 PM
the cabs are too expensive there for my liking
2/20/2006 12:25:25 PM
there were 10 of us in the cab Travis, of course the ride was gonna be expensive
2/20/2006 12:26:26 PM
I didn't realize they did it based on weight
2/20/2006 12:32:34 PM
There are more clubs and bars, the clubs adn bars are bigger, downtown is fuckin awesomeTHE GIRLS ARE BETTER tried for a while to get a job up in raleigh, but only got offered sales positions... then got a nice job after I moved to Charlotte working with a bank. Leads me to believe the job market is better for people fresh out of college down here. You know what wold be cool, if all my friends in Raleigh just moved down here to the BETTER city so i won't have to visit Raleigh anymore[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 12:33 PM. Reason : they don't do it based on weight, it is # of people. ALL CABS DO THAT]
2/20/2006 12:32:36 PM
Charlotte is nothing but a collection of shopping centers that somehow managed to become sticky enough to form the conglomeration we call a city.it is -not- awesome.and the drivers there are worse retards than I have seen anywhere else in this state.
2/20/2006 12:33:00 PM
really? Charlotte is the 2nd biggest banking city in the countrywhich makes
2/20/2006 12:34:20 PM
charlotte's cool, but raleigh's got more character
2/20/2006 12:36:52 PM
hahaha i dont know. i normally drive drunk like UDER
2/20/2006 12:37:51 PM
the shopping centers are plenty sticky enough to hold the city together.I don't see how banks have anything to do with it.
2/20/2006 12:38:07 PM
south park mall is gay
2/20/2006 12:38:39 PM
employment? business?the shoppings centers are here for the people that live hereso they can shopWTF
2/20/2006 12:39:52 PM
Chit Chat?I agree with Steve, there are too many damn shopping centers for my liking. When you have three FIVE movie theatres and at least ten grocery stores within 10 miles of your house, something is wrong. I miss Charlotte when the population was still less than a million.[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 12:42 PM. Reason : .]
2/20/2006 12:41:10 PM
yeah maybe Charlotte should tear down half of the malls and shopping centers and plant some trees to make all the hippies happierBut it'll suck when all the remaining shopping centers and malls become too crowded in which to get shopping done[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 12:44 PM. Reason : I HAVE TROUBLE SPELLING AND]
2/20/2006 12:43:33 PM
I gotta agree with Oskar.Charlotte is pretty generic as far as cities go, much more so than Raleighwood and the surrounding area.
2/20/2006 12:52:19 PM
I lived outside of Charlotte for my whole life. It isn't that great.Charleston (I know, not in NC, but still) is where its at bitches.
2/20/2006 12:53:05 PM
McCity
2/20/2006 12:54:44 PM
please, Raleigh's downtown is dilapidated, dirty, pitiful in many waysCharlotte on the otherhand has a downtown that is full of modern architectural ingenuityThe new Bobcats arena would be the newest example
2/20/2006 12:55:10 PM
agreed. Charlotte kicks Raleigh's ass
2/20/2006 12:55:17 PM
oh, we're only comparing downtowns?because the rest of charlotte sucks ass.
2/20/2006 12:56:01 PM
Charlotte isn't that great compared to Atlanta, NY, DC, etc... but it is as good as it gets in NC
2/20/2006 12:56:10 PM
What the FUCK does Raleigh have other than NCSU??? nothing! Not only Charlotte downtown, but Charlotte metro/suburb is better.
2/20/2006 12:58:05 PM
you're comparing one rotting animal carcass to another here dude.
2/20/2006 1:01:02 PM
At least Charlotte is on the upriseA mass transit light rail system is about to be built... that shit's gonna be awesome(that means no more $35 dollar cab rides each way Jackleg )
2/20/2006 1:03:27 PM
i think raleigh's got a better cultural scene than charlotte... definitely better music, and the art scene isn't bad either, what with first friday and such (although the mint museum in charlotte is awesome)also, i'm just not all that into the slick preppy type bars that seem to be the vast majority in charlotte... i'd rather go to the rockford, or mitch's, etc.plus, living in raleigh i can visit durham and chapel hill if i need a change of scenery. if you're in charlotte, pretty much the only place to go is charlotte.sure, charlotte's all shiny new and clean looking, which is nice... but it just doesn't have any soul
2/20/2006 1:07:50 PM
i've lived in charlotte for 21 years and i love downtown charlotte, but i fucking hate driving around the rest of charlotte. traffic has blew up over the past few years, and now my shortcuts are getting crowded
2/20/2006 1:10:12 PM
^^ some very good pointsWhich is why in my first post I said NCSU should be in CharotteIt would give Charlotte some soul - better music, some moer college town type barsBut Charlotte has a pretty deep art scene here from what I understand[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 1:12 PM. Reason : ^^]
2/20/2006 1:11:48 PM
DiscGolfer - Dude, I live right beside Pineville and I work on Research Drive by Universityit takes me 25 minutes to get to workit takes me between 1.5 and 2 hours to get home from workI can't wait till the light rail and other mass transit changes come
2/20/2006 1:13:54 PM
having lived in both for long periods of time, i'd pick charlotte to LIVE in any daybut raleigh/RTP to WORK in any dayi like them both
2/20/2006 1:15:49 PM
The only thing Raleigh beats Charlotte at is quality of university.
2/20/2006 1:21:59 PM
^ exactly - UNCC needs new admin and Charlotte would have the potential to be one of the greatest citiesOh, Lake Norman is an awesome place too and it's only like 20 minutes away from downtown - in response to the post about nothin around charlotte being a cool place to visit[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 1:32 PM. Reason : WTF is POTENTION]
2/20/2006 1:25:15 PM
I feel like Charlotte is more fun for the young prof. while Raleigh is better for the college student (and possibly raising a family - not there yet)
2/20/2006 1:39:10 PM
im moving there in less then 2 weeksword up
2/20/2006 1:42:46 PM
so if i see you out somewhere can i smack your ass?
2/20/2006 1:47:29 PM
NCSU should be moved to Gastonia.
2/20/2006 2:08:59 PM
i lived in charlotte basically my whole life and charlotte basically = a bit newer raleighis all
2/20/2006 2:18:56 PM
Just bought one of these http://loftsdilworth.com I'll be moving in July '07[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 2:30 PM. Reason : tr]
2/20/2006 2:30:30 PM
that's two blocks from where i work. they're really trying to spruce up this particular 5-6 block areastill some riff-raff around though
2/20/2006 3:14:12 PM
I'll be working at BofA corporate center - which is about 2 miles away. Hopefully the riff-raff will be priced out of the area by 2007
2/20/2006 3:15:13 PM
Just for comparisons sake how much does a 1BR go for there?[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 3:19 PM. Reason : they look nice.. I'm trying to look at comparative NY or Bay Area prices..]
2/20/2006 3:18:26 PM
On the outskirts of down town -One bedroom circa 600 sqft is $170 . One bedroom around 550 sq ft in "The Vue" (the 53 story tower being constructed) is closer to $220.
2/20/2006 3:22:39 PM
raleigh is quite the shithole
2/20/2006 3:39:58 PM
Moving to Southend Friday, so I'll be close to you jsncc587. Got an Olmsted Park condo.Charlotte>>Raleigh
2/20/2006 3:49:01 PM
Raleigh has a lot that Charlotte doesn't have, including a MUCH better music and art scene.Charlotte is generic as cities go, nothing special, no character. It's a city for yuppies and sahms. I mean, if that's you, then ok, but Raleigh is better for me.
2/20/2006 3:51:03 PM
^ yeah, basically you're saying Charlotte is a bit too good for you, and you can't handle it. You think you're a cool person in Raleigh, but you're scared everyone will not like you in Charlotte.
2/20/2006 4:12:09 PM
I agree that if NCSU was in Charlotte, it would be almost a complete city. Downtown Charlotte is quite nice. BOA Stadium and the new Bobcats arena are just starts to what is looking good in the Queen City.
2/20/2006 4:15:13 PM
Not to mention that everyone who's crapping on Charlotte's lack of "culture" probably just hasn't spent enough time here.As far as arts, I'd say that Charlotte definitely rivals Raleigh. I know you guys think first Friday is so cool and all, but in Charlotte we have a little neighborhood called NoDa that is not only cooler, but also has art crawls bimonthly. Other galleries are sprinkled around the city. Mint museum and Levine museum of art are really interesting.Music-wise, Raleigh may have a slight edge, but not by much. Tremont music hall, some cricket arena shows, double door inn, etc. make Charlotte not much worse than Raleigh in this area, if any.
2/20/2006 4:16:50 PM
lived in concord outside of charlotte for most of my life and the majority of charlotte is either the ghetto, turning into the ghetto or strip mall central. Concord sucks too. The triangle as a whole is better imo and as far as driving goes is about the same size as far as land as charlotte. and arguing that charlotte is better than Raleigh is like arguing which kind of Cancer sucks less. GTFO OUT OF NC![Edited on February 20, 2006 at 4:37 PM. Reason : oh and NoDa is fucking gay, what kinda hippster idiot came up with that name.]
