Omaha World-Herald (02/07/06)
http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_pg=57&u_sid=2112353&u_rnd=4428207

Quote :
"Health officials in Nebraska have ordered Omaha businesses to stop making “grills,” custom-fitted ornamental mouthpieces designed to cover teeth with gold or platinum. The dental jewelry can be removable or permanent, but experts say both varieties can cause health problems. “These things just trap bacteria, and they don’t allow the proper cleansing that the lips, the cheeks, the tongue do. That can really lead to gum problems and loss of bone and long-term periodontal problems,” said Dr. James Howard of the Creighton University School of Dentistry. Grills can also impede the natural position of teeth, and customers can be exposed to HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C during fitting for the devices, he said. Nebraska law requires a dentistry license to sell grills, but jewelry stores and other vendors openly peddle them in malls and store fronts. The Nebraska Health and Human Services System’s department of regulation and licensure has ordered two businesses operating at mall kiosks to stop selling grills. But since the stores are not licensed to perform dentistry under state statute, the agency cannot enforce the order. According to Lisa Anderson, assistant attorney general in the health section of the Public Protection Bureau, the state Attorney General’s Office would have to receive a complaint that the business had violated a cease and desist order before they could take enforcement action."

Are you seriously telling me kids have run out of places on their bodies to ostentatiously display wealth/fakes or disregard for their parents wishes??

If we lowered the minimum age of body piercing consent to 16 this fad would die out fast.

I hope.
